It's been owned by a Cypriot family for years. The son in law and the owners daughter are opening it as a restaurant again, I believe. I popped in there as they were clearing the place prior to the building work. They seem like a nice family. Good luck to them
Turkish Cypriot food is somewhat different from Turkish - there is a greater Greek style of cooking influence, but good Turkish food, Cypriot or not, is very appealing - and much more delicate than exposure to 'taverna' style cooking would imply. Turkish (red) wines can be excellent, as is Turkish beer. 'Turkish' restaurants - together with Greek and Cypriot, can offer quite a wide raange of styles - certainly not as great as the whole Indian sub-continent can muster, but we normally only see a small selection (mainly Bangladeshi) on our high streets, so there is certainly room for more Middle Easter cookery generally, without becoming too repetitive. It is the ambience and service which often makes a restaurant anyway, almost as much as the food.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
