But Hamed did the cockiness so well, he played the part and people wanted to see him get smacked in the face, which is why he was such a good draw. Eubank too. Mayweather is the current master of that, people pay to see him because a lot of them want to see him knocked off his perch. But Hamed / Eubank / Mayweather are all great showmen and that's what it's all about really.

Khan has just never been able to get over to the public.

On a different tack, what fights are people looking forward to in 2015? Or what fights would people like to see in 2015?

Matthew Macklin vs Golovkin in Feb will be a cracker but sadly I judt don't think there is anyone to beat Golovkin at the moment. He's like a Russian tank. I wonder if he'll look to move up a division if he wins this one. Is there anyone left for him at middleweight?

Will Froch get a final fight in Vegas before he retires?

At Welterweight there is a surfeit of talent - PBF, Pac-man, Bradley, Khan, Brook, Marquez and I'm hoping Keith Thurman begins to make some headway - he looks talented and hits really hard. Fights between all of these are guaranteed humdingers.

Up with the big fellas I think we might see Tyson Fury in against Wlad and I think an upset might be on the cards. could we see the first ever Gypsy heavyweight champion of the world?

Khan's an incredible boxer, his chin is fine, the guys who've KO'd him have KO'd plenty people and are known punchers.

He is careless and pays the price, but he's got huge balls IMO and just can't resist getting stuck-in which unfortunately costs him fights.

However, I'm not a Khan nut-hugger, he's flawed in several ways including over-elavated view of where he is in boxing.

When he was hanging-on (and on) for Floyd he was probably under impression that it'd be just a couple of months, then just a few more months, rendering himself by default out of contention because he became an inactive and recently defeated candidate.

Shawn Porter showed one way to beat Alexander. Khan seems to be fighting one of the few lighter punching WWs, I expect this is not by chance.

I think he and his team would do the journey differently if they had another chance, but it's now near the end so they gotta think about how they close the show. And everybody wants to fight Mayweather and double their career earnings.

There are so many fights out there he could make, but avoids, it's a shame and also partly due to the multi-belt set-up which perverts the naturaprocess of best fighting best.

I won't bother predicting asince I got 2/3 predictions wrong for the domestic card at Excel two weeks ago !

Fury beating Wlad? No way. No way on earth can that happen.

Mayweather/Pacquiao looks like it could be on. But if it doesn't work out, and Khan wins tomorrow, maybe Pacquiao/Khan in a UK stadium fight next summer?

Think you Murray (not Macklin!) vs Golovkin. I can't see it being particularly competitive. I think he should step up a weight and face Froch or Ward.

You don't think Fury could take him?

He's big. Bigger than Wlad. That never happens so will make Wlad think twice to start with and have to adapt his style. Second, Fury can jab well and work behind it. He's got stamina. He hits hard and I'm never sure about Wlad's jaw, it's just that most fighters can't get near it.

2015

As usual, it could be a better year than it will actually be due to politics and teams using multi-belt as a mechanism to avoid the best/dangerous fighters.

Cotto v Alvarez will be a decent contest, I see the young bull wearing-down the older warrior.

Thurman needs fighters with guts to face him, same with Brook and Golovkin. Bradley, Provodnikov, Kovalev, Saucedo, Carl Frampton, Froch, Eubank, Bradley Saunders, Frankie Gavin, Fury, Frank Buglioni (though he may be reaching his limits, but always a good contest), Shawn Porter (even though Brook beat him, he's a formidable opponent).

Also quite keen to see what Lebedev, Oville McKenzie and Huck do this year. I wonder if Huck will try HW again, he gave a very good account for himself against Povetkin.

I don't think Fury has the experience for Vlad, how could he ? Perhaps a lucky punch could win it for Fury but other than that he goes to sleep in 6-7 IMO.

Let's no forget Wilder, something like 30-0 all KOs. He's fighting Stiverne I think in like Feb, winner gets WBA belt (I think) then fights Vlad for unification.

Not so interested now in Chisora, Cleverley, Bellew.

Oh and Naseem Hamed is still saying he's coming back, so that'll be somnething to look forward to.

The one I am watching since 2012 is Alex Saucedo, he's just on the edge of the spotlight but a couple of wins will get him into the public eye - he's something like 3 years old, been fighting since he was an embryo and has 900 fights all wins.

Did you see the BIZARRE end to the Pascal contest on Saturday ? YouTube it - absurd !!

Murray v Golovkin... If Martin Murray keeps his hidey-face stance with Golovkin (the way he did with Martinez) he'll get his torso crushed, I just can't see what his game-plan will be.

I think Golovkin needs to sort out all the runners in his division before he moves up. There's unfinished business and thos runners are finding fewer places to hide. Saunders might end-up having a go in a year or so, seeing as the top boys are too scared.

The whole Haye thing was a bit sad really. I do believe that he was hampered against Wlad, because say what you will about him, he was no coward, and that fight just looked like he couldn't really go for it. Then it all just ended in a bit of a fart.

I think he's still officially active, but doubt we'll see him back in the ring.

And yes, I think he'd have beaten Fury.

Sounds like Khan was impressive, and predictably he immediately calls out Mayweather. I would totally give him all the credit in the world if he fought and beat Mayweather, but I'm not sure Mayweather fancies the fight (maybe not a big enough draw for him),and I can't see Khan troubling him really.

Didn't see the Khan fight.

There's a view that Khan's jumping the WW queue for Mayweather, that he's recently not shown good enough form to be worthy to fight Mayweather. But it'll obviously be down to which opponent brings most money.

I think Thurman and Brook should be ahead of Khan but I don't think Floyd cares what I think.

The good win this weekend was Andy Lee (Irish) getting the WBO Middleweight strap by beating Matt Korobov in 6 rounds. This is the same Korobov that Peter Quillin (Kid Chocolate) vacated the WBO belt for, to 'chase other options'.

Quillin also has never mentioned Golovkin the whole time he held a belt.

Andy Lee and Bradley Saunders is a huge potential fight now.

Khan's beaten Alexander and Malivnaggi.

So has Shawn Porter.

It's gonna be solely down to money so even if Khan was the best opponent available (I don't think so) it doesn't mean he'll be next to fight the man.

I see hm pissing away up to a year waiting for his 'big' fight.

He could make equivalent money fighting Brook (Hearn has already said ?4m at Wembley and has provisionally booked a date in late spring next year). It'll be a shame, love or hate Khan, if he wastes what will be a huge part of his remaining career avoiding decent match-ups in the hope of a single contest.

If he keeps doing what he did on Saturday he won't need to beg and the fans will cry out for it, for me he's hugely disadvantaging himself by mentioning Floyd like his name is a feckin consonant.

    • Has anyone found a car key fob in College Road SE21 or Dulwich Park?  Lost it at about midday Wednesday 17th December.
    • An excellent point, ed. I reckon you could possibly get the cheese down to 75g per person depending on how many courses, the cheese media one is using and the accompiaments. A thicker biscuit can really increase the power of your cheese dollar. I'd also recommend putting all the last year's chutneys and pickles from the back of the cupboard in a single Kilner jar, adding a bit of malt vinegar and a grated apple, then attaching a hand written label saying 'Pikey's Pickle: Autumn 2025'.  It's not Megan Markle levels of domestic deceit, but it works every time. Pre-portioning cheese seems arbitrary, but I think acceptable when it's 20 people. It gives people an idea of how much a serving is, and negates the issue of somebody, normally a brother in law or cousin's new boyfriend, not taking their share of the rind. Remember, you're doing them a favour. Somewhere in the room there's an older family member who could see it and never forget. It's disinheritance stuff. It also gives rise to the great postprandial game of 'Cheese!' where guests can swap their share of cheese for another. Tastier than Monopoly and far less cardboardy, cheeses can be traded like currency or commodities. Hard and soft cheeses, dependent on their relative strengths, normally settle at close to parity but I've seen blue cheeses trade at less than half the price.  It's a Stilton lover's paradise, if you can hold your nerve.  Goat cheese lovers can clean up, but need to beware. As volatile as the 1970's Argentinian Peso, it's up and down like a bride's nightie.   I think I'll stick to Neal's Yard, then.
    • Another vote for The Cheese Block on LL but for 20 adults, you'd better be willing to pay a fair chunk of money or hope that they'll be happy with very small amounts of cheese! Other than that, supermarket or search online for a large Christmas cheese hamper and take your pick. For example: https://www.finecheese.co.uk/collections/christmas-selections-hampers (only mentioning them as we had a gift hamper, much smaller than a big Christmas one, from them a while ago and it was very nice). I'm sure there are other excellent options.
