Anyone see the Golovkin v Munroe contest.

After dismantling Munroe in the 2nd, Golovkin carried him for a couple of rounds 'for practice', before stopping him in the 6th.

Munroe didn't want to go on, when asked by the ref.

Golovkin now exposing the sham that is Intl. boxing, whereby none of the so-called MW champs want to face him - yet all the pundits recognise him as No.1 at MW and As being in top 5 P4P.

The only person I think could beat him is Mayweather, at a fixed weight down around 154.

Mayweather was a featherweight at amateur level and has come up through to welterweight now. That's the biggest his frame can handle comfortably. He had to fight Canelo at some weird catch-weight. He won't go up to light-middle properly.

GGG's was a middleweight amateur and now fights at....middleweight. No way can he go down and retain his power. He'd be crazy to try.

GGG should look to duff up Cotto and then Canelo. Once he's done, then take on whoever is around at super-middle....Ward, Groves, DeGale, even Froch (that would be a right old dust up).

I think Froch will retire soon... he's been banging on about "one last marquee fight" for ages but it isn't materialising. Golovkin is probably big enough to fight at SMW though... just about.

I'm not saying Floyd will fight Gennady (who persistently asks for the fight), but he's the only guy at a do-able weight that IMO could defeat him.

Unfortunately Cotto/Canelo want no part of GGG, which was part of the point of my post. The WBC has told Canelo/Cotto that if they want to fight each other for the WBC MW belt they must both sign a contract agreeing that the winner fights GGG. Of course, they'll sign the contract, fight, then vacate the WBC belt. Sham.

I think Ring Magazine has Cotto as no. 1 MW.

I don't think the Ward fight could be made. Ward would want to boss the show with majority % of the money split, despite having fought no more times since the Super Six tournament ended in 2012 than Golovkin has in 2015 so far !

The biggest money fight out there is Floyd v GGG, so many people won't pay good money again to see Pac fight Floyd again. Incidentally, GGG would come down to 154 (fight weight), lighter than Cotto was when he fought Floyd. And don't forget Canelo was at an equal fighting weight as GGG when he fought Floyd, in the low 170s.

I checked out the most recent fight (March) of one of my current faves at the weekend, as I'd not seen much in the boxing press about him, if you check BoxRec you can see who he fought (can't remember the name) and find the youtube clip. Alex Saucedo, I think I've mentioned him here before.

Canelo was 152lbs when he fought Mayweather. Mayweather was 150.

Cotto was 154lbs when he fought Mayweather. Mayweather was 151

That shows that 150lbs is Mayweather's natural limit. Even if Golovkin could boil himself down to scrape under the 154 limit (and I'm doubtful that's sensible) he'd shoot up to closer to 160 (if not higher) when he got in the ring. No way does Mayweather give up 10lbs.

Daniel Jacobs, the WBA holder, looks like he can bang a bit (26KOs from 29 wins) so that could be entertaining but again, he may not want the fight. Peter Quillan and Andy Lee would also be entertaining. Contrary to some commentators out there I think there is more depth at middleweight than would appear. That's four or five solid-to-very-good fighters for Golovkin to seek out before he could realistically say there is no one left. That would also take him up to Hopkins record 20 defences.

Golovkin is a lot smaller although not especially quick. But he has, like Duran, hands of stone. Massive power in both fists.

Froch doesn't really do defence in a tradition way an as he's aged his reflexes have faded and he gets caught. A lot. But he has a chin of granite. Likewise, he has power, esp in that right hand that he curls up like a coiled spring.

If Froch takes it, and boxes smart behind a long jab and then peppers GGG with straight rights he can keep him at bay for a points win. If Froch trades toe-to-toe I think he'll lose although it might depend on how well GGG takes a punch - have we really seen him be hit hard before?

GGG has taken plenty of punches, Curtis Stevens got to him easy, Munroe didn't really have a problem getting through, plenty of those were hard punches, and Geale landed a huge one 1/4 second before he was KO'd.

Everyone says GGG gets hit easy, well if he does that includes hard shots, he hasn't faced any powder-puff punchers they all have decent KO records which means they knock people out. So their punch isn't in question IMO.

He did it quite well in Groves II actually. He's tall and rangy with a good jab when he chooses to use it.

I think he's smart enough to realise he can't stand and take shots like he could a few years ago. He knows his career is near it's close.

Massively risky fight to take, buy hope he takes it.

I said to Otta on Friday night that I thought DeGale would get easily outpointed.

But credit where credit's due. JDG is the real deal..

Good for him anyways, his career seemed stunted after his loss to Groves.

He's done well considering his opposition hasn't been top-tier.

If Groves gets a belt too we could have a good match-up between the two (and maybe Froch swoops down out of the wings to reclaim some world titles).

Povetkin v Perez was over quicker than I thought it would be on Friday night, Perez who hurt Abdusalamov a couple of years ago.

Next few weekends seems like some good bouts coming up.

DC - no, his name rings a bell so I've probably seen him fight before, but don't recall anything that stood out.

The pundits say Grado is not an assured win for Selby, there's work to do !

There'll be some real stars come out of there, based on what they're showing the last decade or two.

Europe may end-up being the home of World boxing. That's be handy for the timings of big fights.
