I have a couple of "games" I've played whilst walking down the street since I was a kid, and still find myself doing it. One is where a car can only pass you between parked cars, if it passes whilst you're behind a parked car, you lose a life. I can often be seen suddenly jogging a couple of steps to "get to safety".

Oh dear.

I've been walking these streets so long

Singing the same old song

I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway

Where hustle is the name of the game

And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain

There's been a load of compromising

On the road to my horizon

But I'm gonna be where the lights are shining on me................

Jah, I know for a fact I have OCD when it comes to certain things. I am not for example, the tidiest person in the world. However, if certain things are not in their place, I can't relax til I've sorted it! Old uni mates used to change little things around in my room at halls when I went off to the loo, and then watch me sqirm when I got back.

Fear not, Bellenden Belle - I do this too. I haven't mastered not moving my lips though.

It's the Tom Wolfe theory of urban survival. He parades around in white suits, cane and a fancy hat and has been along various 'mean streets', his theory is that the more you look different in a rough part of town, the less likely the local ruffians will be able to process exactly why you're choosing to do it. They then leave you well alone.

Apparently it's worked for him, so you carry on Rosie, more power to the elbows your jazz hands are attached to.

Take your hands into a position of an open clap - palms facing the audience (and darling one must have an audience), usually your upper arms will be close to your body (allowing you to extend during your big finale) then shimmer your hands from the wrist. Think Liza, think Al Johnson, think "omigod how fabulous darling am I?"

And smile. As if your life depended on it.

Easy.

Next up - the timestep.

    • We went to Love Dulwich a couple of times last summer and found food good. We have a family meal anticipated on a Friday evening in February - adult who needs gluten free food, plus a couple of vegetarians. and 2 children under 12  one who cannot eat dairy produce. Any suggestions for a restaurant?   we have done Maria's in the past. Ideally in ED on a bus route   and where we can reserve tables. Possibly will be 9/10 of us. Also 2 of us use walking aids so limited steps plus a disabled toilet.  Would also consider Peckham.
