I have been tasked with compiling a 'pub quiz' for a bunch of rowdy drunks on Xmas day (my family that is). In past years, I have gone to a local quiz and plagarised their questions..adding in a few researched ones of my own. This year, I have a baby and don't get out quite as easily as I used to, hence no quiz. Can anyone help? What are the best pub quiz questions you have heard this year? The ones that surprised you. Or flummoxed you.

Many thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

If people post them on here won't that give advance warning to anyone attempting the quiz on the day?

I have done one or two in the past and used some online resources

some of them here

but really it's best to use plenty of your own and make the quiz more personal. Nothing worse than a quizmaster contesting a wrong answer when he/she doesn't even know anything about the question because they are just reading from an "issued" list

Hi Sean, no danger of anyone seeing it. They are not local and are not Forumites. I agree regarding the personal touch. BUT I have run out of time. I work full time and have a baby...NO time for internet searching (she writes whilst sitting at her desk 'working')....

Thanks, Keef. That's a good one.

In what city was the first ever performance of Handel's Messiah? Dublin. Name all 4 ghostbusters. Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Winston Zedmore, Ray Stanz. You might want to check those, but I think it's a good question. Name all 4 teenage turtles, with extra points for colour of mask and weapon used (this question was in the mag quiz a few years back). Leonardo blue katana, Raphiel red sai, Michelangelo orange nunchucks and Donatello purple bo staff. God I need to get a life!

Keef, that is so sweet! I can just see 10-year-old Keef running about being a Ninja Turtle.

In order to be helpful and not just wiffling on about Keef, couple of questions off the top of my head:

- Who is Apollo's twin sister in Greek mythology (Artemis)

- Which country won the most medals in the Paralympics (China (211) with GB 2nd with 102)

(scornfully) EVryone knows that!

What I want to know is why female heroes in comic books always wear huge boots, enormous head-dresses, lots of straps and, erm, a very small furry or PVC bikini. And they all look, erm, a bit cold.

*thinks about it for a moment*

*light dawns*

Oh yeah..

OK. Who won the first Nobel prizes, and in what year? (I reckon you could give a point for any)

- Chemistry: Jacobus H. van't Hoff

- Physics: Wilhelm C. R?ntgen

- Physiology or Medicine: Emil A. von Behring

- Literature: Rene F. A. Sully Prudhomme

- Peace: Jean H. Dunant and Fr?d?ric Passy

In 1901.

What is most commonly believed to have been the last song played by the band on the titanic before it went down?

The tune that by far the most survivors reported was the last was "Nearer My God to Thee". (although no band members survived to confirm this).

It's a good question though I think.

(scornfully) EVryone knows that!

Okay smartypants, who was She-ra's nemesis?

Hordak.

I can't think of any other female heroes that dress as you describe, other than Wonder Woman. And to be fair, She-ra would have been a lot warmer in a snow storm than her brother!

Humph, really didn't mean to start a posting frenzy of nearly naked buxom sword-wielding comic ladies, but I guess I should have thought ahead.

Q - Whose was the shortest US Presidency?

A - William Henry Harrison, who died of pneumonia in 1841 within a month of his first term. How much would that suck after all the campaigning?! Answer - a lot.

No. Slash lived in Crystal Palace, I read an interview with him where he said the Dinosaurs in the park were one of his earliest memories. And Bowie, although originally from Brixton, lived in Beckenham. I'd never heard that Bowie babysat for Slash before but CP's not far from Beckenham. Oh, it's like stella street.

    • I highly recommend Temi as a very skilled and reliable painter / decorator based in the East Dulwich & SE London area. She has completed many jobs for us over the past 10 years at our property on Overhill Road SE22 and also on Harlescott Road SE15, and we have always been thoroughly impressed with her work. We often leave her with keys and leave her to work her magic, fully confident that she's 100% trustworthy and will always do a fantastic job. If you're looking for a trustworthy local decorator who delivers exceptional work Temi is a great person to call. I'm not affiliated with her or her business in any way and actually found her through a recommendation on the ED forum over 10 years ago, i just like to recommend really good tradespeople who deserve a thank you. • ''He caused chaos  in this country with his put down of everything British and his many dismal words about the effects of Brexit on this country.'' What utter tosh. Carney had to mitigate the effects of Brexit caused by plastic patriots like Farage. For example, immediately after the 2016 Brexit vote the BoE had to intervene fiscally by dropping interest rates and increasing QE in order to prevent the economy from taking a big hit.  They were unable to prevent the £ from crashing at the time, and it has since been worked out that the effect of that alone caused a circa £900/year hit to each UK household, which equates to the UK @ £450m/week.   There's reams of data out there that shows the economic damage Brexit has caused to the UK. Here's one looking at business investment, admittedly not very sexy but kinda important if you want to achieve economic growth. It's clear to see that prior to 2016 we had reached parity with some of our main rivals, but since then we've flatlined. All that Brexit has achieved is to win the race to the bottom. There's a reason why Farage never brought up Brexit at the last election, he knows himself it hasn't delivered on any of the promises, quite the reverse in fact.  Labour, stupidly, by saying they can make Brexit work have in effect given Farage a Get Out of Jail Free card...
