Eggs Benedict in ED......... (anyone?)

Recommended Posts

While it's not strictly about eggs benedict (ok not at all)... there appears to be nowhere in East Dulwich serving decent quiche. The East Dulwich deli's quiche offering is a shocker and the quiche in the market is disappointing (altho the tartlets are good). I know quiche used to be a guardian-reading joke out of a Posy Simmonds cartoon but if anyone can recommend anywhere, then you'd make this quiche eater very happy.

Yaay. Nothing wrong with a softspot for balham. I lived there on and off for a bit in a flatshare with a certain french protestant. Our love of ED needn't be to the exclusion of all London after all.

I do like the Bedford alot, and we were to varying extents involved with the refurb in terms of advice to the new owners, and for my part, keeping their turnover healthy by drinking too much. ho hum...and the owner STILL owes me my Bedford Club 100 t-shirt.

I had to be helped across the road to my house by a passing policeman who picked me up off the floor, but I _did_ manage the club 100 challenge!!

Oh dear god, why did you make me look on the internet Tillie?

100 shots of beer in a 100 minutes (every minute on the minute)

Is much harder than it sounds. Of the 12 or so who started only 2 of us finished and I have no recollection of the last 10 or so, memory filtered back in about 5 or ten minutes after my 100th, 15 minutes later I staggered home with little or no coordination. Aren't policemen nice.

Mind you we'd had a couple of bottles of wine with sunday lunch prior to that as I had no idea I was going to be plunged into that ridiculousness in the afternoon.

Monday at work was deeply unpleasant.

Not for the faint hearted......

hee hee - I've played that game more than once under the guise of "centurions" (sounds much more manly)

I hate to brag but I didn't find it a problem (perhaps because our shots were always measured using camera film cases, not sure if these may be less than a shot?). The last time I completed it we upped the ante by changing every tenth shot for a shot of red wine. The two of the four us competing who didn't complete the challenge made quite a mess mind.

Hats off to you Nutty, we all have different physiology. I'm sure the late great Hunter S Thompson would probably have found it a breeze with whisky ;)

If you want another go at it then I believe Nathan and the CPT may be sponsoring a session some time in the near future.

CrystalClear and Keef may have more details.

    • I remember seeing something a few years ago on TV about a fox that was actually biting through people's shopping / takeaway food bags.  It was situated in an alleyway.  Not in London.  Very interesting in how the the urban foxes brain development been affected by their surroundings.   Not an exact quote for Darwin.  It's the adaptable that survive / not the strongest or the most intelligent.   I would be worried if a fox came close me.
    • Driving down Lordship lane around 2.45pm today saw a v sick looking fox walking in and out of the crowd.
    • I know I'm a bit premature but don't want to forget through too much Chrisntas cheer! Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
    • Most homes in East Dulwich / Good Green ward have collections on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. So no changes for them this year.  But for those few local homes with collections normally on Thursdays or Friday, with Christmas, Boxing day happening on Thursday and Friday any blue, brown or green bin collections will be delayed by two days. So Thursday 25 December collections will be on Saturday 27 December and Friday 26 December collections on Sunday 28 December. For New Years day those Thursday collections will be on the Friday 2 January and those with normal collections of Fridays that will be on Saturday 3 January. To double check when your Southwark Council rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden waste collections will be taking place please please check here - https://services.southwark.gov.uk/bins/lookup
