If I get down it's more usually February that does it to me - combination of the reminder of singledom that is valentines day - no matter how crap and commericialized it is, still feels worse being single than not.

Yes, I thought that too, for many single years, and then having been in a failing marriage and emerged bloodied and beaten, I thought being single was preferable.

In fact, it's a walk in the park, compared to being embroiled in a disastrous and terminal relationship.

God bless us one and all, and I hope Tiny Tim's waistline flourishes.

Oh I agree, it's just Valentine's day I tend to forget that - you only get the idealized images on Valentine's day after all.

Mostly if I feel glum about being single I can drum up memories of the last ex and remind myself how much I like my freedom - the ex was a bit of a bully at times, liked to put me down and tell me what I could and couldn't do.

But I still retain some (perhaps naive) romantic notions that being in a good relationship must be better than being single though.

I shan't get the January blues. I've got the gym bug (again) after getting a day pass yesterday to my cousin's fancy gym in Muswell Hill. Dulwich leisure centre hasn't got quite the same facilities, but it's got a pool and a gym... I wonder how long my resolution will last...

Wish I had time to do an evening course or something, but don't right now. Good luck to those people who are starting new courses and new ventures in 2009.

I agree with some posters about February being a more depressing month, particularly with Valentines Day. Hope I get more cards this year than I did last year -I got no cards last year :(

    • But people getting up for work or if they’re a carer having to get up after a few hours sleep would know it’s gone 11pm as they’re kept awake by selfish people!
    • I agree. Midnight I can understand when it's celebrating the start of a new year (under whatever system) but not otherwise. Though re the wildlife, it's going to affect them whatever time it is, I don't suppose they know it's gone 11pm!
    • Looking for someone naughty on the ground? What other reason would there be, if it hasn't landed anywhere?
    • Yes I get your gist, but maybe you could just name a few of the very many you mention? I'm not sure why you find it very concerning that somebody would leave Labour for the Greens? So have many people, including me.
