edcam
This doesn't surprise me in the least. These people really let the responsible cyclists down. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/48377-just-readin/#findComment-776982 Share on other sites

Mustard
Saw a woman cycling on the Grove Vale pavement today. She was accompanied by a boy of about 10 on another cycle. On Sunday I saw another woman cycling on the pavement, steering with one hand and talking on her mobile with the other. northlondoner
Only a matter of time before one of the usual suspects complains about the threat to cyclists posed by selfish blind people. Nigello
It provides figures and testimony rather than pro and anti anecdotal "evidence". The take-away, as they say in the US, is is that the best way to avoid pedestrians being knocked over by cyclists on the pavement is to not allow cycle riding on the pavements. Otta
This seems to be more about VI people waiting to cross roads, when they will rely on their dog to basically resist if there is danger (such as an unexpected hole in the ground). The dog won't be able to communicate that tyhere is a bike coming, and bikes being very quiet, VI people often won't hear them coming, so you can see how these accidents happen. david_carnell
Except that the whole thing has turned out to be utter nonsense. The stats were essentially made up for the story. Just 14 people had an issue. 14. One four.http://road.cc/content/blog/128474-anatomy-lie-how-guide-dogs-london-fabricated-attack-cyclists And yet for 48 hours all we get in the press is "evil cyclists" again. I'm not making excuses for those 14 or for any cyclists who cycles dangerously and/or on pavements. But we really need to get this in perspective and realise cycling can and should be seen as a friendly, healthy, cheap and reliable transport method instead of making it out to be the preserve of lycra-clad psychopaths.Even the BBC have had to print a correction saying it was cobblers.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-28945834 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/48377-just-readin/#findComment-777310 Share on other sites
Otta
For the record, I wasn't having a go at cyclists, and ceertainly not joining in with the cycling on the pavement thing. I was explaining why a guide dog wouldn't prevent someone from walking out in front of a bike. Something I actually know about, so thought it might be worth mentioning. david_carnell
And my post wasn't an attack on you. It was on the media. And on the London Guide Dogs organisation for spouting bollox.Your post was worth mentioning.
