I selected 3 sweet pots at the veg stall at the entrance to Peck Rye station yesterday. The stall owner weighed them (approx 3/4 of a kilo) and said ?3.50. I queried this and he re-weighed and said he could go to ?2.50. We had already agreed ?1 for a butternut squash without any quibble and I said I was expecting to pay ?2 for the squash and pots but he wouldn't budge. So I just bought the squash and wondered how out of touch I was with sweet pot prices.

Today, I got 2 sweet pots (half kilo so bit less) for 59p at Lidl.

Neither was organic and I'm just so surprised by the attempted rip off at the stall :(

Lidl's rocks, tho I avert my eyes at their random space. The one where there's a onesie next to a rechargable fly-mo one day, then a fly fishing set next to a yoghurt maker the next

I've never looked at the price of sweet potatoes anywhere, i'm so out of the loop

How much is a pint of milk ?

I love the new Lidl ad on the tv, where they set up a farmer's market stall and don't reveal their brand until the end. All the customers are incredulous at how cheap the wares are. The only thing wrong with it is that they don't show a huge queue at the stall as you get at the tills in the shop.

Lidl potted herbs are ROCK

buy them anywhere else and they are dead before you wake up next morning

by comparison, the Lidl herbs (and I'm not talking any particular type - I've tried various) are still going months later on the kitchen windowsill

Well - I've chopped them off and eaten them in salads ... will that do it or an I too late?

xxxxxxx

Yep agree, AND the herbs are cheaper than in other supermarkets.

Lidl are (mostly) brilliant, and excellent value. There are some things I wouldn't buy there again though - can't remember what, so that's useful :))

    • Is anyone else having difficulty booking Silver Swim sessions (Tuesday and Thursday between 3pm-4pm?) Almost all the spaces are taken before the online booking system opens at 10pm several days before. Last night there appeared to be one space available for next Tuesday. I tried to book at one second past 10pm but was unsuccessful. This seems to have been a recent phenomenon. I made a telephone call this morning but just received a recorded message saying that the voicemail box was full. Am I right in assuming that in person bookings are now taking precedence over online ones?
