Have had a similar experience the other night. Guy knocked on my door and asked " Do you believe in God?" I said a polite "No. But I have other spiritual beliefs around how the universe works". He then expressed a keen interest and asked if he could come in for a chat. It took me three hours to get rid of him but when he left he gave me a little coloured book full of yoga moves. Is this the same man??

I had the same thing yesterday morning. They were so nice I couldn't rude to them. In the end they left me some magazines and said they'd be back in a week or so! What do I do now??

My Grandad loves when they come round, he takes their books, has a cup of tea with them. Pity he's a Catholic and has no intention of changing.

MOVE! :p

Fake window cleaner...just to follow up, the police have already closed the case on my report of 'Steve' - altho' at least one other neighbour had reported him to the 'Safer Neighbourhood' people. Clearly he is in a different category from sellers of either religion or genuine building services, however pressurising. If the window cleaning scam is still continuing in the neighbourhood, it would be good to put a stop to it. Over and out.

I am trying to persuade Merton Trading Standards to prosecute these people, who quoted ?11915 for coating the front and back of my father's terraced house, when what he actually needs is new windows.

If you have any experience of these people at all, please let me know and also tell Trading Standards at [email protected].

Many thanks,

Hi,

I used to clean windows when I was at college and still have all of the equipment. If any one wants windows cleaned at a less than market price, I would be happy to clean them for you. Because of current safety laws I would be only able to do two storey houses.

Kind regards,

Libra Carr.

Hi all

I've just been doorstepped by APEX PROMOTIONS. It was a young girl with dark hair. She was white but with olivey skin and she was very persistent/aggressive. This company sound same as Andura Guard. I have found a warning about them on a Hayes website with instructions to phone Trading Standards.

Do not give out any details, just tell them to go away!

Number for Southwark Trading Standards is 020 7525 2000

Keep 'em peeled!

July 31 2009.

Apex Direct Promotions called here, in Bristol, and my daft wife signed to have them 'survey' our walls. On my return I went ballistic with her for this, and rang the company up on 0800 282 732 to tell them that we do NOT want them calling here, or coming here EVER again.

They said that they would take us off their list. I hope so.

And sorry for invading Dulwich, by the way, hope you don't mind.

Follow up:

Apex just rang a minute ago and were very pushy, and ultimately very rude in slamming the phone down after they 'agreed' (for the second time!) to 'take us off their list'.

I think I'll get in touch with the telephone preference service to try to block them. Thing is, as my wife signed their damned form, I wonder if we will forever get calls from these 'people'.

I, on the other hand, hope she does read it, and all the others I have found on the subject!

Anything to stop her signing me up for time shares etc. A few years back she signed me up to change my gas and electric provider - when she was accosted in Sainbury's, by, 'a very nice man'.

But yes, I hope they have the message, as I wouldn't like to lose physical control on my own doorstep with one of their 'salesmen'.

Apex Direct Promotions Ltd are at it again...

2 women working their way down the road this time, 6-7pm.

Gave them my phone number (doh!) but only work number (phew). Just read this thread and the Swindon experience. When they phone I'll tell them I've changed my mind and hang up. If they knock on your door say you aren't interested and close the door.

Their full details:

Slightly off topic, but possibly relevant re casing properties. A few weeks ago one evening I saw a young lad (12-14'ish , white, skinny, brown hair) looking through my front window (he would have had to come into that area through the front gate). I rushed out to ask what he wanted, by which time he was on his way, rather quickly. He said he's kicked off his shoe into my front garden by accident and was retrieving it. Might have been innocent but it felt suspicious- particularly as he was peering through the window into my sitting room.

Hi,

I live in Brockley, SE4 but wanted to add to this thread. Apex Direct Promotions is a company selling external wall coatings. I signed up for a free external wall survey at the weekend thinking the company did all kinds of external maintenance (when I booked the appointment on the phone the very nice lady said they specialised in all external maintenance). However the salesman who arrived tonight was highly suspect (despite being a very nice man) and would not answer even a single direct question on what his company did. I booted him out after 20 minutes. Since then I've found this thread and others on Apex being a hard-sell, overpriced wall coatings company, which makes sense given my experience tonight.

Do not sign up for any door step sales pitches for free external wall surveys, or entertain anyone saying they are from Apex Direct Promotions Ltd or Andura.

    • Surprise, surprise. It didn't take them long, did it. This will be something of a test as to how much the council really care about parks and the environment. A footfall of 60,000. Are they mad? There is no way this park is designed for or can sustain that sort of use. Just had a look at the schedule. If allowed to go ahead, this will involve a large slice of the park (not the common) sectioned off and out of use for three weeks of May and the first week of June. Here's an idea, why not trial the festival in one of the other Southwark Parks, so the 'goodness' can be shared around the borough?
    • There was another unprovoked attack on Monday this week on a young woman nearby (Anstey Road) at 6.45pm. Don't have any other details, it was posted on a Facebook group by her flatmate. Pretty worrying  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EGfDrCAST/
    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.
