British Lions would have been short hand for British Isles Lions. I think most people in the UK of Scottish, English or Welsh descent will still refer to them as the British Lions even if Lions are synonymous with England.


To answer the question of what they should otherwise have been called, I'd say, HSBC Lions... or whoever is willing to sponsor ;-)

Which black England winger scored a hat trick of tries against Ireland in a match where supposedly Swing Low Sweet Chariot was heard at Twickenham for the first time. I have to say I was there and don't remember it but that's not surprising given the result! Naturally I'm hoping for something different today.
