......there is a huge defensive insecurity about East Dulwich which is easily pricked by the likes of Honk and TDFE8 (and maybe the younger ????s) which is slightly odd....I'm very happy here is it Nivarna? No, do I care, no.....chill people not every one is so enamoured with SE22, does that matter soooooo much. (of course other people are just fishing B).

Methinks the regular EDFers do protest too much....even from Singapore

Isn't Hackney supposed to be "desirable" these days? Despite having some nasty bits, I'd say on the whole it's probably more expensive than East Dulwich.

????, I certainly don't consider SE22 to be Nirvana either. I think it just seems odd that someone would join this forum seemingly looking to alienate people, or have a go at them. In the case of honk... he/she is obviously just stirring to try and provoke a reaction, once you realise this it becomes kind of amusing. Almost.

Let's face it: on the whole, South London is a bit of a dump, compared to North London.

The reason people why people who live in 'the less shitty bits' of South London might seem smug is because they're so relieved not to be living in the rest of it, their relief is tangible.

To a certain extent, anyone seen to be emitting anything approaching a smile anywhere in south London outside of a bar during happy hour is probably seen as a smug git - though I agree pushing a Bugaboo whilst examining a hi-def photo of London with a magnifying glass ("You can see our house!") probably doesn't help with the overall image.

"Let's face it: on the whole, South London is a bit of a dump, compared to North London"

It's true if you're talking about "North London" as referred to in Guardian profiles - "Jocasta runs her ethical design business from her Victorian house in North London" - i.e. Islington, Camden, Highgate, Hampstead. But Dalston??

Comparing like with like in the north/south debate, east London is like south east London without the hills and the 'villages' so is generally shittier, most of it's built on flat marsh and river plain and is suburbia going to slums..the bits nearest the city are obviously 'trendier' than down here but SE London shits on East London.....and I was born there and support the Hammers!

Well its at the centre of the East London "Murder Mile" equivalent to the (poetic licence required) South London "Murder Mile" which is Brixton/Kennington/Peckham/Camberwell Green, the latter being its nucleus.

Hence.. 'on the whole'

Sure, the shittiest bits of north London are right up there with the shittiest bits of the south. Shittier even.

But compare stuff 'on the whole', area for area, between north and south London (eating, drinking, clubbing, seeing, doing.. anything) and, umm, well.. But then it is cheaper. And that counts for a lot.

That said, I've still yet to find* anywhere I'd rather live in London than here.

*(afford)

Let?s face it: London in general is a dump.

South London has more really crap areas though which makes the parts which aren?t similar to inhabiting a war zone that little bit more of a novelty. This in turn attracts the bitter resentment of individuals who feel somehow alienated by these people who aren?t like them so therefore must have some kind of sinister agenda behind all that brazen respect they display for themselves, their environment and those around them.

F-Troop..."Treatment-The Surgical Mask Brigade"..."The Halfway-Liners" are holding a grand re-union at Fisher Athletic when we meet them, in around 2012(6)...

Never got involved once but the stories I could tell ya..at Bolton, at Stoke, At Oldham (when Man Utd turned up) at Chelsea etc:)) even bleedin' Carlisle Away when I was moved 20 yards down the Terraces for swearing..lol

Harry has apparently gone to the Great Kennel In The Sky....

Cool. An almost objective debate appears to have ensued. I underestimated this place. Still, a lot of areas in London still don't even have a web forum.

I feel a bit guilty now about wielding my rod with such stinky bait yesterday (fnar, fnar).

Shame, as Huguenot was quite a catch!

    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
