I really don't know enough about him to comment. I don't think he has been brought in to directly replace Alonso though and really the only thing that bothers me for now is his fitness.

From what I've read it seems he'd be a positive addition to the team - a player who likes to get further forward and into the box than Alonso. Liverpool may miss Alonso dictating the tempo but I think other players can step into that responsibility. I'd have been a lot more worried if we'd lost Mascherano, Agger, Torres, Reina or Gerrard.

As Anna said, concern would be fitness as from past experience players who arrive in England with a history of injuries tend to spend large chunks of every season in treatment room and I strongly suspect Aquilani will not buck that trend.

Annasfield - Don't get up to that many what with new baby etc, but brother-in-law bought a new flat in Liverpool One last week that he won't use at all, so may well be there more often this year. It's still a 'boss' night out up there.

Flipping 'eck - no Victoria Line or East Dulwich trains on Sunday which will make getting to WHL a real pain. Having said that at least it gives the lads an extra 24 hours to prepare after the pointless internationals on Wednesday night.

CELTIC Under-19s will play English giants Liverpool in the final of the prestigious Villarreal Youth Tournament tonight, Tuesday, August 11.

The young Hoops secured their place in the final for the first time after a dramatic 2-1 win over the Japanese national side on Monday.

Having already secured wins over Real Madrid and AC Milan, it was another huge scalp for the Bhoys ? who will now take on Liverpool in Tuesday?s showpiece final.

Celtic went in to the game with Japan knowing that a victory would take them through and produced the goods, with goals from Declan Gallacher and James Forrest sealing the 2-1 win. The final kicks off at 8.30pm on Tuesday night.
