Horsebox
Do they actually exist or is the idea simply wishful thinking on my behalf?I've seen a few people heap praise (and onions, Mustard, Ketchup) on Coops Hot-Dogs on North Cross Road and so am lead to believe that such a gourmet treat may be more than just fiction.I am having a Superbowl party on Sunday (as some of you may know) and have had a couple of requests for Chilli Dogs - I've no problem making a high quality beef chilli, but am slightly reluctant to slather it all over a limp, anemic-looking product of the abattoir floor.Your suggestions, please. nunheadbelle
Those frankfurters that usually come in packs of 10, are quite nice. They are firm and flavoursome and go well with lashings of relish, mustard and any kind of dressing. They keep their shape well when taken out of the hot water and onions and don't disintegrate. Hmmm.. I sound like sound kind of hot dog expert. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5050-good-quality-hot-dogs/#findComment-162746 Share on other sites

Brendan
There is a German Deli near Borough Market. Just around the corner that the Market Porter is on. Don't know if they sell wienners but I asume they should. bignumber5
There's a German sausie stall in borough market - i think they do franks, but their bratwurst are truely to behold.Other than that, I'm the one man in the whole of london that likes the salmonella-dogs from the vendors in cov.garden. Don't even have to be pissed. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5050-good-quality-hot-dogs/#findComment-162866 Share on other sites
Michael Palaeologus
Anybody remember the boiled burgers that were available in the '70s and early '80s? They came in big catering tins and were heated through boiling - usually sold through small sheds in bus stations. They were digusting. Thankfully kebabs and the proper burger chains have killed off such establishments.Such were the joys of growing up in Cannock in the '70s. And Bargain Booze, of course.Ah memories, I was there 96 - 01 (stayed on after uni). At one point I lived on Baggot Road the Smithdown end, right opposite the Aldi. Used to be worken regularly by the delivery lorry beeping and telling us ut was reversing!During summer of '97 I lived just off Allerton Road around the corner from a newly opened Bargain Booze. Me and my mate used to go there daily throughout the summer, great times! cate
I saw some Herta ones at the Co-op in Forest Hill Road. Also think Sainsbury's do similar. You want beef ones if possible. Don't forget the French's mustard - available from Sainsburys. jollybaby
For me when it comes to hotdogs the cheaper the better - I can't get enough of the tinned ones. Pop them in the mike (out of tin of course), 2 slices of white bread and squirt of ketchup . . . . . umm may have to get of the sofa now Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5050-good-quality-hot-dogs/#findComment-163084 Share on other sites

Horsebox
Thanks for the replies everyone - I followed Dave R's and Brendan's advice and picked up some franks from the German Deli near Borough.Big Number 5 and Brendan - jumbo dogs from the street traders? Yikes. A cast-iron stomach is surely required for such folly. I remember many many years ago trying one as a drunken dare. I couldn't finish the first bite and the remainder went straight to the bin.:( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5050-good-quality-hot-dogs/#findComment-163696 Share on other sites
