Roofer (HELP)

Hi,

I am also looking for a Roofer for repair work and to remove a chimney stack and build up another one. Have been looking since last Summer and have been let down so many times.

I have contacted 11 companies.

- 4 didnt respond to emails or txts to arrange a quote, or they said they would call back but never did.

- 4 actually arranged appointments with me and then didn't bother turning up - one was polite enough to let me know, but then cancelled a second arranged appointment.

- The other 3 actually turned up and sent quotes. They were all very different in terms of the work they quoted to fix the problems and the prices. None of them actually went up a ladder for 5 minutes to take a look.

So, I am still looking.

Hi Dean,

I am new here, don't know the rules, so I don't really want to start by trashing businesses in an open forum... sorry. If there is a private message thing on this, please contact me.

Anyone got any positive reviews of respectful companies that do properly good work at an fair price?

good luck finding as good roofing company they sadly dont exsist in east dulwich .i myself used to work for k&e roofing many years ago and we was nomanated roofers ,that means any work that wasnt up to standand we had the job of stripping it all off and doing it properly .shame i had an accident so can no longer get up on a roof .K&e roofing covered the whole of london you maybe may have more luck using a firm from outside of this area .a london type roof is so simple to do i just cant understand why so many have had problems making it water tight .a valley ,slates or tiles and flashings i used to knock them out over a weekend .sometimes it is the parting wall that is at fault .without seeing it i can only guess.

Hi my name is Nick, I'm a local general builder. I like to offer a professional service and high standard of work. Over the years I've come to know a lot of different trades people who I can trust and be happy to let work on my customers properties.

One of which is a very good roofer, I would be happy to arrange a time for us to come round and take a look,

I can be contacted on 07956 502 942, thanks,

Kind regards

Nick

Russell Perring was reliable, efficient and reasonably priced when he did work for me a few years back, and has always been highly recommended on here.

I know he's often extremely busy, so I've no idea whether he is currently available either to give quotes or to actually do the work.

However if I ever need a roofer again, he will be the first one I call.

After a long long time spent trying to contact a roofer often recommended on the forum to accept his quote, we turned to Dulwich Roofing Contracters based in Herne Hill. Like all decent roofers, they had a list of jobs they were working through but they have been amazing. They were professional from the start. They have always arrived when they said they would from giving a quote to the start date. We had a sagging roof in danger of collapse so a major crisis. Half of it had to be rebuilt but they didn't turn it into a drama. We have felt in safe hands. They worked so hard with great skill, such attention to detail and were considerate. They really have restored my faith in craftsmanship and have been wonderful to have around. Even now, determined to finish it perfectly, they are hunting high and low for little roundals to put on the front that match the original ones. They are a family firm, father and son and did all the work themselves. It is such a nightmare trying to find a roofer, let alone ones you feel any confidence in. We felt in despair but they have really come through for us and would highly recommend them. The new roof is a work of art, strong and beautiful.

I called lots of roofers, who said they were too busy or didn't turn up.

Jeff Latouche came round, had the tools he needed with him so fixed it there and then. That was six weeks ago and he said to call him back if the roof was still leaking. Pleased to say it's fine! Not too pricey either. If you search his name on here you can get his number - and more recommendations

I had guttering which needed replacing, other sections which needed repair, one new splashboard and the facia to another to be installed, and an exposed wooden joist to be sealed.

I was given David O?Donnell?s number by a friend. He came over quickly to address the problems and to provide a quote.

I booked him on meeting him (very nice man) and in particular on hearing the quote (which was very reasonable).

He turned up on time with his team (including his nephew), did the above work and repaired a crack which he identified on the roof as needing a bit of cement to avoid any possible leak. He also replaced the bottom of a down-pipe from my shower which the builders who had installed my bathroom had not properly fitted. David/his team, did the extra pieces of work for free.

He identified further problems which did not need to be addressed immediately - which another roofer identified when I was buying my house - and subsequently provided me with a further (very reasonable) quote.

Will I use him again, and do I recommend him? Absolutely ? 07412 000 214

I think the one thing about this forum is helpful recommendations from regular forum members. What really makes me cross (because it is insulting ) is people who pretend to have been a customer and post glowing recommendations when their only posts are for that company. Willoon and One Tree Bill above may to be an example. Their only posting on this forum after registering has been for Nick of Abbey. The best thing when reading recommendations is to check what other posting the poster has made on the forum. To the companies who do this, can't you realise that these posts are counter productive to say the least.

I can second Woodo's recommendation for David of Norwood Roofing Specialists. We have had trouble fixing a problem above our front bay but (fingers crossed) David seems to have solved it. A nice, polite team who are arrive when they say they will and work quickly and cleanly.

We have recently had our roof completely laid by Cas Mc Cann, as recommended on here. We were very impressed with his operation. The roofing team were very punctual, polite and hardworking, and they tidied up after themselves.

Cas himself was very good to deal with, as he promptly answered all of our questions and queries. I'd be very happy to use him again.

Really recommend Nick for roofing. Reliable, professional, quick and competitively priced. His mobile is: 07966 285679. He also saved me a lot of money. One company said we needed an entirely new roof whereas Nick told me to do only what was necessary. He saved me nearly ?1000!

    • Well hello Manor men, I went to PM from 74-79. I was in O and Churchill. I can’t remember my tutor but do remember a number of bods. I’ve read a number of posts here about PM and recognise some things. Mudway was an arse. Hardly ever changed his suit.  Guys I remember are Alan Palmer, Wayne Peck ( had an older brother at the school and I think lived Peckham Road, Longleigh House), Owen McClery, Junior Gayle(Wing Chung master), David Banton , Steven Green ( I think he had green eyes), Rodney Evelyn, David Barton, Raymond Gillman (deceased), Neil Warner, Horace Marshaleck (deceased), Steven Watson (two years younger) I have a picture somewhere of the school winning a cross country event against other schools in the South London Press I think.  Teachers - Miss Pugh, Mr and Mrs Webster, Mr Thomas, New French teacher 1978/79 Miss Anspach, Mr Baugh, Mr Nelson, Mr Patel, Mr Sparks, Mr Dowse, African PE teacher, hard as nails, Mr Fenton for careers, Mr Kemel Also, my brother attended Adrian Lewis, a year younger.
    • One gentleman who kept the boards up to date with community notices i.e. local residents' association events, East Dulwich Community Centre, sadly died a few years ago. He never had the keys to the NX Rd board as this was outside his ward (now known as Dulwich Hill). The council changed the locks on the boards and we do not know who was given the keys. The gentleman's widow carries on with posting community notices but only on the odd couple of boards whose locks have been broken and she can lift the cover. If I remember correctly, it was the Lib. Dem councillors in ED that initiated the boards.
    • Thanks, that’s very sensible advice  and I’ll most likely follow it. I shouldn’t need anything from them, and if anything, they may end up needing me as they’re likely to go first. Really appreciate your support.
    • Hi Jason - we had very difficult neighbours at some stage. Differently so from yours - aggressive, drinking fairly heavily etc… I tried to accommodate their many demands (and their huge dog who howled all day and used our garden as his toilet) until one day, I just started ghosting them. Cut off contact entirely, blocked their mobile phone number, ignored them when they tried to speak to me. I point blank refused to deal with them, including when they needed my signature to extend the lease to secure their new mortgage, which really panicked them. This proved highly effective and they moved soon after (after I made them sweat to sign the freehold docs they needed) I don’t know if you want to do the same if there is a personality disorder involved. But if you do, make sure all your paperwork is in order and there’s absolutely nothing you need from them.  I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s really unpleasant.
