ThinLizzy
... absolutely Mockney -- and I also can't help to point out, rather ashamedly, the chavvy types rushing to be the first to lay Esso-esque flowers at her gate, gushing with battle-worn, fag-drawn mouths "Aww, she woz ahh Essex-gahl next door she was"...Er, she came from Bermondsey *slaps forehead in Pappa'League of Gentleman' stylie* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5185-jade-goody/page/4/#findComment-183784 Share on other sites
Mikecg
I just felt sorry for the kids thats all, I was never a fan of hers and I hate celebs its all hogwash to me but when anybody dies of Cancer it is sad, even if she was ignorant we cant all be oxford class now can we, who would sweep the streets or pass the dentist the pliers. to me she is a reflection of what society has become through the eyes of the media live by the sword die by the sword. Mikecg
From what I have seen in my life middle class Chavs are more anoying because they are more full of shite, what makes a person a Chav? is the fact that they dont speak with a plumb in their mouth or they work on the dust. SeanMacGabhann
But that's not good enough is it? Thousands of the wee buggers in the same boat every day. Why choose these ones? And lest see how many people care for the children with a violent thug of a dad and the press doorstepping them as they reach adolesence. Let's see if people care for "the kids" then and stop buying the scum papersI agree with quids around the class/chav/easy name calling thing - it's out of order. But the inappropriate shrieking of grief is just as misplaced as it was when t'middle classes came out when Diana died. So in that sense - apart from a few people generalising, this isn't about class really - it's about a weird mass-hypnotic effect overtaking common sensePiers expressed it best. Not much more to add really. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5185-jade-goody/page/4/#findComment-183808 Share on other sites

Keef
These kids are a bit different though Sean, as they've had to deal with it in public (another parallell to Diana I guess). Perhaps mum's fault, but sure she didn't mean that. Sad of course, but there we go. Not much more to say on this one. ????
Mike, how come you're getting all holy about respect for Jade Goody when it's just a laugh when you post jokes about Munich? SeanMacGabhann
You're right about these kids being different. But what will make things more different (in a bad way) for these kids is the public appetite. The more people "grieve" the more the kids become the unwitting focus for that grief. Not healthy. It's nothing do to do with any of us. Let the people who know them pay their respects and look after them. there is nothing for us to see here. If Mikecg is worried about society he should worry about one which cares disproportionately for "celeb" kids who already have financial security (relatively)Throw a stone outside your window - you'll find kids in a similar boat without the same cash Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5185-jade-goody/page/4/#findComment-183827 Share on other sites

woodie
though hating her considerably as an irritating publicity hungry cleb i felt bad for her when she found out party is over.Wasnt the irony that she missed her test because she was determined to cover her tracks and publicly appease shilpa shetty? i dunno, but wouldnt wish her cancer on anyone. Its odd how she somehow looked at her most vibrant with no hair. Somehow it brought out different qualities to her face. Once quite ugly to watch as she talked her sh*t and yet before she died she seemed quite noble and dignified. Life+ death is quite random huh? A good friend of mine died of the same thing. She was about 15 yrs older than Jade. A vetenarian in california. She simply had a tummy ache that got a bit beyond a quick neurofen. so she had a quick check. Gone within a year. 2 great children, hubby doing his best. ThinLizzy
...Sorry to use the term 'Chav', I don't make reference really to anyone's class when I say "fag drawn, battle-worn", I was actually trying to make the point that there are certain types of people (of any class) who seem to get all excited by tragedy, and who are the first to become martyrs or jump on the band-wagon, yet I bet when the going was good they'd be the first to slag Jade off. I despise hypocrisy, that is all -- but I shouldn't have used the word chav. I come from very humble beginnings, and have had to work hard to do what I do -- and made many sacrifices but I'm happy with my lot. I just chuckle inside when people assume I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth -- it makes me realise that I wouldn't want to know somebody who thought they could suss someone out in a few minutes. Hence, I admire Jade because she dragged herself out of a hole, which I am sure was very difficult, but she ended up having lots of leeches being her 'best friend'. SeanMacGabhann
Mike - what is it I've said that has gotten your goat so? Why the accusation of hypocrisy and who is trying to "crush" you? You are being disagreed with and I think I'm doing so in a reasonable way - what's the problem? ratty
When someone gets upset at Jade Goody dying, or Diana dying or Natasha Richardson or whoever... are they not really crying for all the sad things that happen to the unknown people? Are these celebs not just representatives of the frailty of life? That's my take on it any how, so, I am sad at Jade's passing because it highlights the fact that some boys do lose their 27 yr old mother to cancer. It makes me hug my boy tighter when I think about it! So, RIP Ms Goody! dbboy
I am not a Jade fan BUT she has become probably the most famous reality TV person and as such generated vastly more income as a result than any other reality "TV star". As expressed earlier she grasped the Big Brother opportunity that was given to her and maximised this opportunity. Her illness has raised awareness of cancer with the rates of young women seeking smear tests rocketing, so in some way her illness and subsequent passing has had a positive impact. Having cancer can?t have been pleasant and knowing she was dying she did everything she could to secure the future of her two sons, I don?t agree with the way she has gone about doing this in the media, but she wanted a better education and life for her children than she had. Her early life in Bermondsey was nothing less than being seriously unpleasant. Whilst not having had a proper education she tried to change that by becoming a trainee dental nurse and went on from that to make something from her life through the chance given by Big Brother especially over the past seven years. Jeremy
I don't think many (any?) people are disagreeing that it's tragic. Nobody wants to see a young person die long before their time... and leaving kids behind to grow up without a mum... yes, it's a sad story. But the same thing happens every day, all around the world. Each one is tragic. I didn't know Jade Goody personally, she didn't enrich my life... I will not miss her, I have no reason to mourn. It would be insincere and hypocritical to pretend otherwise. Let's leave the grief to her friends and family, who actually knew her and will genuinely miss her.
