Hi - re: tomorrow --

The day will start rainy as per usual according to the met office, but, turn to heavy snow sometime between 12noon and 3pm...keep yourself updated on the morning weather at the met office site where you can enter your postcode, or, have a work from home day lest you get stuck with no train...

otto the friendly snow-fan

The met office just issued a 60% severe weather warning for london. rain to sleet, then to heavy snow. of course, it might just stay sleet or rain. hence the 60% chance.

the BBC gets its info from the met office...the met office provides a bit more detail and gives odds on it happening.

Oh no, that means my driving lesson will be cancelled AGAIN! It was cancelled Monday and today. Rebooked for Monday.

Luckily my scan can go ahead this afternoon since my stairs are clear and my midwife appointment is on Saturday morning, hopefully the sleet on Friday won't be too bad that I will have to cancel my saturday appointment.

This weather is great if you don't have to do anything but a bit of a pain if things are constantly cancelled and you have to get out and about. Beside it is does not look too pretty with slush and rain!

Yep that's what I saw too.. Highly doubt there will be enough for a snow day though..

This snow event looks as though it could quite easily match or surpass sunday/monday's event. Peter Cockcroft (distinguished weather broadcaster) suggested than we could be in line for anything upto 8 inches even in central London the snow is likely to settle and that is despite the wet roads. If he says this, then I believe him. Come on Southwark where are your gritting lorries?

Louisa.

Sean, I would usually agree, but the setup for snow is sadly still extremely likely. Cold pool of air over the UK, raw ENE winds and moist Atlantic air approaching. He may well have just been trying to play safe, but the Met Office have issued an amber warning for London and the South East, and they did the same sunday night and were pretty much accurate.

Louisa.

Risk of disruption Warning : - Heavy Snow Valid from 0200 Fri 6 Valid to 1500 Fri 6

UK regions:

60% East of England

60% South West England

60% London & South East England

60% East Midlands

Heavy Snow

There is a high risk of a severe weather event affecting parts of southern and eastern England on Friday. Periods of snow will be heavy at times and will give accumulations of 5 to 10 cm over large areas and locally 15 to 20 cm over high ground. This is likely to cause disruption to travel.

Issued at: 1141 Thu 5 Feb

Met Office

PERHAPS THE FIRST ONES TO HEAD FOR THE EARLY TRAINS TOMORROW (friday) CAN POST ON HERE THEIR SUCCESSES IF THEY MANAGE TO GET ON THE TRAINS FIRST THING.

LOADS OF PHONES ALLOW THAT EMAIL THINGY THESE DAYS DONT THEY.

THEN US WHO GET LATER TRAINS CAN CHECK THE EDF WEBSITE FOR THE REPORTS - MORE RELIABLE PERHAPS THAN RAIL WEBSITES !

KK

It might look fairly harmless - rainy and sleety for a while during the day - getting in does not look like a problem

but when and if the temp drops sometime between 12noon and 3pm it might bucket snow down heavily just in time for your journey home....

    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really?
