All you need to do is drive through Calais to the outskirts and you will see plenty of signs for Wine Warehouses. However, I would recommend driving as far south as you can because the prices and the wine available changes dramatically. If you manage to drive 4 - 5 hours south for instance you could get to Nante (loire region), I would recommend going to the hyper markets for Red wine and then to local vineyards for white ( muscadet). In my opinion you will enjoy your trip alot more if you stay over a night and enjoy some regional french hospitality.

If you want something less hectic than the massive hypermarkets then Franglais is pretty good. It's less than 10 mins out of Calais from the ferry, you can park right outside the front door and walk in to pick your stuff. It's sat by itself amongst some fields. I got a few crates of decent stuff from there and about 12 crates of cava that tastes like the ?8 stuff over here but in bulk it was about ?2.50. This was 2 years ago.

As you drive along the motorway you can see it on your left - Franglais in 6 foot letters on the side of the building.

Another great, authentic, non-hypermarket place in Calais itself is Le Bar a Vins, 52 Place d'Armes, Calais 62610. Very near the main ferry terminal, but completely 'old worldy' and lovely. Don't think there's a website, but you can phone proprietor Luc (who can speak English) on: 0033 (0)321 96 96 31. I've been to two weddings where all the wine and fizz came from there at bargain prices and was delicious! Think it's closed on Wednesdays. Auchan for big hyper-market cheap wine and beer, plus better veg than you ever get in a UK supermarket.

For lunch try the Hotel des Dunes in Bleriot Plage. Proper French restaurant, attracts few Brits but easy to find.

Nausicaa in Boulogne is fun and bizarrely, The Welsh Pub in central Boulogne is a nice caf?, bar and restaurant serving French food, rather than the crap that is produced for Brit day trippers in many places.

    • It's also possible that someone is hand feeding foxes and encouraging them by this to approach others. I have heard of foxes attacking young children (if only anecdotally) but not adults. They do seem to attack cats.
    • I've noticed the foxes are very frisky at the moment, it's mating season. Perhaps it was a male fox who saw you as a danger to his vixen and wanted to see you off.
    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
