Hello

Id love to take my 3 year old to a christmas singing thing at some point?mainly for me, love a bit of carol singing. Are there any toddler carol singing events in ed area over the next few weeks? Does anyone know when the southwark cathedral carols will be? I think that might be a bit full on for him but just interested.

I listed a carol service in West Dulwich on 13 Dec on this local parenting Facebook group if you scroll down:

Can cut and paste info when on my computer (can't copy it across on my phone)

Carols on the Green Event on Thursday 18th December 6pm, is very child friendly - organised by Goose Green Primary School PTA, it's led by the school music teacher. Mulled wine, minced pies, carol song sheets and a brass band to accompany the carol singing round the Christmas Tree.

A non-facebooker here(!) - the event sounds great, what other additional info is on the fb page? Thanks

My then 3 year old, 1 year old and I went to the Christingle service at St John's Church just by Goose Green last year and it was lovely. Plenty of carol singing, plus handing out of the Christingle orange, lit with candles etc. It was late afternoon (about 4-ish I seem to remember)and a very welcoming and family friendly atmosphere.

Horniman Museum has carols this Sunday as part of their Christmas Fair. It's usually very busy (lots of children!) and in the past they've handed out song sheets for the final carols so everyone sings along.

Sorry for the confusion - it's Thursday the 18th December!

Thanks Vrook for suggesting Bach to Baby!

I'm Miaomiao who runs Bach to Baby, and we have a very special concert planned for our Dulwich Village concert on Monday Dec. 8th, 10:30am. The programme is a Festival of Songs, featuring David Jones, Baritone. We will also have lots of sing-along carols at the end, so come prepared to sing!

Our West Dulwich/Tulse Hill concert is Friday Dec. 19th at 4pm

and that is a special Trombone and Sackbut concert. Rare opportunity to hear the ancient instrument live.

of course, we'll have your favourite carols to end too.

So, if you have any questions, just PM me, or write back here.

Hope that helps!

Hey Anya, hope you're really well! We took the kids to the christingle at St. John's last year and it was really lovely, Nancy really liked it (tho I nearly had a heart attack when she nearly set light to someone with her christingle candle). It is hugely popular, so be sure to get there early - http://www.stjohnseastdulwich.org/the-goose-green-centre - looks like there's one at 3 and 4.30 on Xmas Eve xx

This event was lovely last year: full of kids and lots of smiling happy faces.

Carol Singalong at St Barnabas church on Sunday 14 December at 3. 30pm for about an hour

There will be mulled wine ,mincepies and drinks for the children We will sing 10 carols including Away in the Manger ,Little Donkey etc

Last year over 100 people came . Very welcome friends ,children and grandchildren

Dulwich Helpline are providing the mulled wine and the Singalong is in aid of Dulwich Helpline .

You won't be able to miss it! This year, we are planting a living Christmas tree (with Southwarks blessing) on Goose Green. It's to be at least 6foot I believe. The planting is due to take place tomorrow on the green - in the long term goose green primary school will take responsiblity for long term upkeep of the tree. The children of the school will decorate it before Carols on the Green.

I will take a photo and post it here so there is no doubt where will will meeting!

Thanks for all these ideas and info, Caroline that sounds great for Christmas Eve if you're going again this year let me know! We were considering southwark cathedral but closer to home might be preferable. Had a similar incident with Maurice last year with a candle at a Christmas Eve carol service...

Xx

Hey, we've a Christmas toddler nimble tots session on Monday and Wednesday, finishing with a singalong of carols round the piano, a there's a few tickets left. There's a bit more detail on the website at http://goo.gl/Vcll2W, but it'll be a Christmas musical story (lots of cello, ukulele, djembe...) followed by carols and craft.

Went to a lovely Christmas Crib Service at St Faith's in North Dulwich today. The toddlers and children acted out the story of baby Jesus and I got to sing away to all the Christmas songs I've loved over the years. Always takes me back to morning assembly at Bessemer! They even had a play area at the back of the church for toddlers who couldn't sit still for long!

    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
