Recommendations for architect/designer for side return

We are starting out on the exciting (scary?) process of extending into our side return & getting a new kitchen. Neither me or my partner have done anything like this before & we're a little unsure if we are best getting an architect/design company to draw up the plans first & then put those out to tender, or whether to just go with builders from the off? Any advice on the pros & cons of these options and/or recommendations for architects would be gratefully received.

Thanks Emma

Hi Emma

I live on lordship lane and run a local architecture firm, we have loads of experience of this kind of work. I would be happy to come out and chat you through the process and how we can help you.

Take a look at our website and please feel free to give me a call.

Hi Emma,

You lucky thing - I'd love to do my extension all over again - loved every minute of it! I personally would recommend starting with a builder. They can give you initial advice on what can and can't be done, and the good ones will be able to recommend architects they work well with. I've done work on my house both ways (i.e. architect first or builder first) and would always stick to builder first.

If you want my builders details feel free to PM me.

Good luck with the build!

Hi Emma,

An architect will have a personal relationship as long as he hasn't got too many on the go. If you are interested in making something a little more interesting than a builder would offer then contact us at www.archic.co.uk

    • Agreed. Just stating as a historic fact they tried to stiffle reviews.
    • A quick assessment on having a barter scheme amongst the community. An exchange of goods and services may be really helpful during these difficult times.    I wonder if it’s something that someone would be willing to set up separately and link to the forum? Or perhaps  an additional aspect of the forum itself if it was easy to include? I don’t have IT knowledge to set this up unfortunate, but I do have skills that I could offer. From past experience, it would probably work best as a direct exchange rather than coupon credit.    I may be flaunting the rules by posting on this twice, admin please feel free to delete one if this is the case.

Thank you for stepping up.   whilst I’m here, I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a barter scheme amongst the community. an exchange of goods and services may be really helpful during these difficult times.    wonder if it’s something that someone would be willing to set up separately and link to the forum?
