I got a text from an anonymous number.

I believe it may be from someone that used to be on EDF but no longer is.

Not sure how the got my number.

No idea why they thought I would be that interested. ?

We really DON'T need a sports bar. Walkabouts are awful.

I think tradesman has it backwards, people were desperate to like the cherry tree, and the promise of 'new management' meant people flocked there and were cautiously optimistic that a new leaf had been turned.

But the age old problems resurfaced.

If this is true then i reckon whatever comes has the potential to be a massiv success as its a fantastic building and perfect location.

Walkabouts are admittedly a bit meh (to resurrect a dead meme) just a bit clinical and soulless, but I've had some great times in them watching the rugby with kiwi mates.

Damn, was hoping for a Wetherspoons!

And I agree with El Pibe, people had high hopes for The Cherry Tree at one point, and those hopes lasted just a few months during which the food was excellent, the range of drinks was excellent and the chef and managers were lovely. And more and more people were sussing this out and going to eat/drink there.

Then the usual happened and it was back to its normal dismal empty self.

Any "abuse" (that's a bit of an exaggeration) subsequently directed towards the people responsible for the usual happening was based on facts and well deserved in view of their actions, in my opinion.

Anyway good luck to whatever replaces The Cherry Tree, it surely can't be worse than its most recent incarnations.

But a Wetherspoons breakfast is a joy to behold. And their beer festivals (?2.75 a pint) are worth a trip or two. As mentioned, I've hardly ever been into the Cherry Tree, so I'm not losing something I never had.

And Antic is a chain of 37 pubs (including EDT, The Tiger, The Sun of Camberwell, The Effra Social, Catford Constitutional, Westow House, Sylvan Post etc), while thw Walkabout has 32. So being a chain is not necessarily a mark of evil.

    • If you and I already have various government id and use them effectively, why do we need another?  I need to travel abroad, then I use my passport. I need to drive, I need my licence. I need to check my tax, NI or whatever online, I need a government id. This is all fair enough. However, I should not have to and I will not produce my papers on demand for simply existing in my country. Illegal employers currently exploiting migrants without physical id will continue to do so, knowing the worst consequences they will face is that their limited company might be fined.  Can you imagine what misuses a Farage government might put a compulsory id system to? Opposition to what may well become this government’s Poll Tax will be considerable. The petition to parliament is already up to 2.5 million: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/730194
    • I have no problem with it. Don't understand why civil liberties groups are against it and why there has been so much historic resistance to the introduction of ID cards. We already have passports, surely not so very different?
    • Hello, I’m Saria, a local collector and curator of antique children’s dresses based in East Dulwich. I’m looking for a little model girl aged 2–3 or 4–5 years old to take part in a very relaxed photoshoot in my studio in East Dulwich. The purpose is simply to photograph my antique dresses being worn, so I can share some images on Instagram and show how they look on a child. The shoot will be very simple, and will last for a morning between 9am to 12. A parent/guardian will of course need to be present at all times, and I will provide a short consent form confirming how the photos may be used. I am offering £100 as a thank you. If you are interested, please DM me with a recent picture of your child. I will make a selection once I have received responses and will let you know if your child has been chosen. Thank you! Saria
    • Whilst instinctively I'm against this I already have a government ID, pay my taxes through this, renew my passport and driving licence. Polling suggests a slight majority will support this  It would be good to get views on the concept rather than the politics. Let's see how long that lasts! We can talk the politics at the Forum drinks.
