What part of India are you (and/or the chef) from? How about some local specialities? What do you eat at home? What do you look forward to eating whenever you return to your home town?

Give us the good stuff, drop the tikka massala and stuffed lemon sorbet, keep the menu simple... and you will have queues out of the door.

But Ganapati has doubled....so perhaps just not vegetarian food.

I'd echo regional speciality. Look at the success of Silk Road in Camberwell as an example of a non-mainstream Chinese restaurant that has taken the previously unheralded Xinjiang cuisine to new heights.

Do that. But for wherever you're from in India. Unless you're from Bangladesh like many "Indian" restaurant workers/owners. In which case be honest and make me the best damn Bengal curries I've never come across before.

Yep. I happened on a curry house in the Cotswolds a couple of years ago and we ordered a couple of curries off the Bengali section at the rear of the menu. Absolutely fantastic. When I asked why more 'Indian' curry houses don't do this the mgr suggested they're scared in case the unfamiliar dishes put people off. His retaurant was rammed on. Thursday.

How I pine for that restaurant to be in ED.

For me, it's be simple to decide where to eat if just one bloody curry house would stand-up the same way.

David Carnell Suggested Bengali food so I gave some Bengali dishes.

Tony said it would be Bangladeshi... So I gave a Bangladeshi favourite.

    • In answer to your question Pugwash, the variety of foods that they offer both in canned goods and fresh. i personally no longer am a Sainsbury customer after years - feel that the quality of both their fruit, veg and fresh products ie meat, chicken, fish is not of a quality that they use to be. Agree with Sue that Co- Op does not make for a pleasant shopping experience.  On the subject of Waitrose not coming to ED - one can only assume that market research has been done by the company which makes it a non starter which, when you think about it is strange as all the big contenders are here.. Perhaps the powers to be have never heard of ED!! Maybe a Lidl or Aldi will rear their heads but somehow can’t see it as space is way to small. Really is strange that Waitrose is a non arrival - never ceases to amaze me how many eateries are in Lordship Lane alone and the majority all survive.
