LadyDeliah
Davis, don't give up. The EDF has become really boring because the same people jump on new comers and most of the interesting posters have left.I don't bother with it much any more because it's full of crap mostly nowadays, but your posts have been quite interesting so far and when the idiots get off your back and leave you to post in peace, I'm sure you will find others will engage. It does seem that some members have adopted a very aggressive and patronising culture and are thus unable to engage with ideas but rather resort to insult and slander. DulwichFox
I would not consider this place as the best place for Academia. From my earlier question on the meaning of Academic :- 'Having no important consequence or relevancy' would seem to fit the bill. Most people here are mainly concerned with the merits of Pizza, Croissants or Coffee. Any attempt to strike up any debate on anything more meaningful is likely to be met with contempt. Alan Medic
That's BS Foxy. The 'Is there a God' thread in the Drawing Room (RIP) sparked plenty of debate as I'm sure many other threads did too. Though I'm not an academic I like a good discussion and I may even find it entertaining to take a stance on a subject I don't actually agree with to see where it goes.Maybe I'm a troll? Blah Blah
'why are the RAF men who fire bombed Dresden and Hamburg considered heroes while the 7/7 bombers are considered terrorists?'You are not comparing like for like there. The contexts are entirely different and context is extremely important. The former an act of all out war between nations throwing everything at each other. The latter, an act in isolation. A better comparison would be with any battle in Vietnam. Terrorism is so called because it's the method of groups without armies, designed to strike disproportionate fear, hence the term, and also hence why it never succeeds as a method in itself. So an appropriate use of the word for the 7/7 bombers. missteak
Its all in the tell innit.Hegemony ffsYou just need dialectics and paradigm for the set. you are a true academic, then I pity the poor fools who have to listen to your uninspired monotone. If you are reduced to intellectual chest beating and cock waving on a feckin local forum. Then the education system is more broken than the cherry tree.Yer peers must be shitting themselves about their career trajectory when they are up against a behemoth with such rigour who needs to patronise ( in both sense ) a local feckin board where the closure of a scabby deli proved to be the apex of Cartesian meandering.Innit. Blah Blah
That's a bit simplistic Alan, but even there, terrorism didn't achieve what it set out to do. Ultimately opposing sides have to talk to each other and find a middle ground they can both live with. El Pibe
"Without so called terrorists the Irish republic wouldn't exist now."That's quite a statement given home rule would have appeared soon after WW1 and there's no way independence wouldn't have come after the dissolution of empire. It may have taken a couple of years longer, it may have come quicker; shooting at people tends to harden resolve, at least in the short term. Hard to say really.
