toto
To all the people not noticing the aircraft noises on their way to Heathrow, today is easterly winds (which is sadly very rare), open your window and have a listen. Can't you make any difference when airplanes land from the other side of London ??? So nice and quiet :-) Please Boris Johnson, open your Estuary Airport, and let's forget about this Worst-Possible-Located-Heathrow Airport ! macutd
Fantastic?. I could hear my bedside radio this morning without having to have it loud enough to hear over the normal continuous plane noise. Oh for an easterly wind and come on London let's stand up and say we don't want any more noise about us from 5am everyday. toto
I couldn't agree more. The first plane (from Hong-Kong) lands at 04:30am if it benefits from tailwinds :-( No good for the light sleepers! No to mention the continuous noise the whole day, like you said. *Bob*
Interesting definition of 'very rare' - since easterly winds account for approaching one third of all Heathrow arrivals. Enjoy nonetheless. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52720-easterly-winds-heathrow/#findComment-809076 Share on other sites
missteak
I went on a plane once. It was very quiet apart from from a baby crying twice.don't see what the fuss is about. david_carnell
You live in London. It's noisy. There are major infrastructure sites nearby. If you want peace and quiet go and live on the Isle of Skye. macutd
it doesn't have to be so noisy, we have a choice! Those who don't want a choice can live on Skye. toto
Agreed with macutd. A ig town doesn't have to have planes on top of it. There are many big cities with no planes flying on top of them by simply having no airports on the West side of the city, which brings no noise at all (like Gatwick, Luton or Stansted) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52720-easterly-winds-heathrow/#findComment-809438 Share on other sites

david_carnell
Was Heathrow here when you moved to London?Gatwick?Luton?Stansted?Right, then pipe down. Or do you never take holoidays yourself? Or simply travel by train to Birmigham before boarding to avoid being a hypocrite? macutd
Been living in Herne Hill and East Dulwich all my life and it's got much worse than it ever was. stephent
You could use this argument to say that because there's a street outside your house and you take a taxi twice a year then you can't object to anyone turning your street into an 8 lane motorway. Except that you get far more of a say if the govt did that relative to them changing flight paths or increasing aircraft numbers.david_carnell Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Was Heathrow here when you moved to London?> > Gatwick?> > Luton?> > Stansted?> > Right, then pipe down. Asset
you can't just say "it's a city, get over it". The noise is particularly bad here as we are directly under the flight path into heathrow. In other parts of London the noise is not nearly as bad. Even just down in Dulwich village or along in herne hill the noise is less. It would be nice if the flight path could be varied slightly at times. This discussion has been done to death on another thread though. fabfor
This is a link to research into the effect of night flights on the body. It's in French but shows that damage is done whether or not you're consciously aware of the flights. Buses are the biggest noise - they seem to be designed to push noise upwards.Luckily not a family - so just accept it. I wouldn't live where I live with children. Sue
Or get the glass in your windows replaced with acoustic glass! It's what they use for the meeting rooms in Heathrow, apparently!I am sleeping sounder since I had it (unless there have been no planes lately, which is possible :)) ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52720-easterly-winds-heathrow/#findComment-832488 Share on other sites
