"Oldham pull out of Evans deal

Posted at 11:55

"Oldham board member tells us deal to sign Ched Evans is OFF due to 'enormous pressure from sponsors and threats to staff and their families.'"

"Threats to staff and their families"? I mean FFS!

Reminds me of when Judy Finnigan semi supported him (by saying it wasn't a violent rape). People were so upset by that that they did what? That's right, they threatened to rape her daughter.

We live in a country with a scarily large number of really really really feckin stupid people.

I'm no supporter of Evans, but stories like this make me start to want a club to gamble on him.

That's a rather glib and uncalled for response quids (apologies otta for confusing the names - I should have known better)

I've already alluded to the 70s in my posts (coupled with the fact that in the Polanski case it's been going on for decades and has the victim saying she doesn't wish to prosecute)

I don't recall Assange being tried so can't really comment on the outcome of that case

Not sure how much room there is for shit-stirring these days

We always have, difference being that these days they have a voice through social media...and anonymity.

Really?...

What sort of quote is that from Harry - is it computer generated ?

The R's boss said: "I think it's about getting a second chance in life. It's very difficult, people make mistakes, dreadful mistakes in life, but people go in prison or whatever they do, whether you've murdered someone or whatever, unfortunately a lot of them come out."

Well no, not really I suppose. But I do hope that any dick head who has threatened anyone's family gets their collar felt.

I have no reason to doubt threats were made by some supporters (after all isn't it one of the reasons Stevie G stayed at Liverpool back in the day?) and two wrongs don't make a right

But equally I suspect some spin in including that as one of the reasons when really it's money and the ongoing damage to their reputation

Yup - it's a terrible world

Now imagine how many of those kinds of messages the victim has been receiving in the last few weeks and wonder why Evans hasn't said anything to ask people to stop it

Basically anyone in the public eye (but especially women) get these threats All The Time

Yeah I get that (but thanks for clueing me in).

The point is that I would rather the club just say "we've decided not to sign him". Saying "we're not signing him because threats have been made" basiocally tells the world "you can get your way, just make threats of violence".

Well, that's rather *why* there's an appeals process isn't it?

Though (and im REALLY no expoert) doesn't it have to be based on new evidence, else its just a retrial.

Having read the linked judge's summary this hardly looks like someone's been fitted up, or a shocking lapse by the jury. Noone's really arguing the events themselves, just that bit of legal grey area between crime and not.

Now Oldham's pulled out, a likely next step for Ched Evans if he still refuses to acknowledge any responsibility could be reputation rehab via a Martin Bashir style stage-managed confessional, or the more usual route of a celebrity reality show, to humanise him and gain sympathy.

Incidentally, the attached covering letter of 7 May does name Tesco as the applicant in all three of the planning applications I listed above in my 30 October post. 25_AP_1351-COVERING_LETTER-4061593.docx
    • Please consider any security issues associated with someone helping. Does the person have good intentions? Do they know what they are doing? Will they require your passwords or screen unlock. Will they set them for you and consequently know them? Will they store them for you? Are you sharing passwords you cannot change immediately after or are used in other places? Will they recommend apps that potentially open up security or privacy issues you do not know about. It is a bit of a minefield depending on what help you need 🙂
    • I think it's outrageous that he thinks he can do this. This is about reducing waiting lists. How dare he seek to fundamentally change the judicial system to address administrative failings (for which he is responsible). Courts are notoriously slow. Judges are slow. Perhaps look at WHY there are so many cases - what's going on? is crime going through the roof? Why not more judges, why not look at how court admin is managed?  We had one judge - over retirement age, who only worked once a week (possibly) and was slow, frail and no idea about emails etc. no sense of urgency. I actually complained which did hurry things up.  This is not a dynamic private company who wants to get things done - it takes time, it's a complicated and thorough process. RIGHTLY SO.  As least he's not lifting the lid on free legal aid and increasing the tax payers funding of it.
