Prince Albert bellenden road

Had my first pint in the new Albert today, designed for new locals but in saying that it was clean, vanilla as mentioned before but it has kept the old layout with the additional bit at the back.

Whilst I would go back the old atmosphere is not there but that is to be accepted.

I have to admit I went around 1700hrs before the bridge and tunnel people arrived. I do hope the original people return and we don't have blow in new crowd which would be a great loss.

As mentioned before it is people that make a pub let's hope us oldsters are not edged out. Trends change

and the upturn in Peckhams fortunes can just as easily hit the fan again.

Verdict. Not the shitty, loved Abert but could be a local asset if not pontcified and caters for all.

Will visit again later in the evening at some point, who knows result. Locals give it a try

The Clock House does score high on the "Vanilla List"

But the Dulwich Woodhouse was close too

That place is closed, but I dread its next incarnation

As Richard Tudor says above, things can change. I was in Whitstable yesterday, and weather wise it was lovely. But and it's a big BUT, the peak of its last gentrified period has definitely past. It's become slightly chinzy/seaside bric-a-brac crummy-arty in the worst way. It reminds me of Borough Market syndrome, where the place outweighs the goods on sale and there's a stench of staleness in the air

I really enjoyed trips there a few years ago, specialy the Royal Oyster Stores for lunch

But sadly yesterday was a bit flat, the fish past its very best and gormless "I'm with stupid" t-shirts on the visitors

The Natives tasted very good tho

*Sigh*

  • 2 months later...

Wasn't looking for a sing song...but a queue to exchange two plastic coins for some dry sliced gammon and over streamed veg would have completed the time travel experience nicely.

It wasn't an unpleasant experience. The beer and tunes were decent. But if you're going to spend that much on a fit out...make sure it brings in more customers than before. It's now got a strange provincial feel and non identifiable clientele -neither appealing to long time locals or to blow in hipsters. Oh well.

I think these pubs, no hold on: I know these pubs work from the back outwards.

That is that they figure what they can offer, by paring it back to the cost over experience model, in that they take it you're 'out for a meal' so they make the surroundings palatable (enough) then they add cost, which along with the surroundings adds up to a 'good experience'.

Then they subtract quality and skill and serve you expensive shit 'food and wine' from the suppliers who also play the game

So people leave with a 'oh, that was nice' but not really knowing what was actually 'nice/ok' as it all semmed oddly odd/right/shite/wrong

And then the in-laws go home and you feel ok because they're gone and you park up this experience until the next time they arrive, or some one else vanilla turns up

I hate myself about every 6 months or so

    • Would this not be a complaint better aimed at the council? Isn't it an anti social behaviour issue?  I think of myself as pretty live-and-let-live and feel like a miserable cow for saying this, but I do think I might complain. Personally I love the sound of fireworks but our dog is under the table, shaking like a leaf night after night and collapses in the street when he hears the noise.  I'm worried his heart'll give out.
    • The lower / no bang noise fireworks sound great.    Is there anywhere local selling those?
    • This petition to reduce the noise of fireworks is currently going through Parliament https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/738192
    • Have you complained to the solicitor directly and did they respond within the 8 weeks they have under their code of conduct - I presume they have and this is why you have escalated further to the SRA? If he doesn't respond in a timely fashion per the SRA code of conduct then I am sure they will need to take action.
