That Monday in 2009 was pretty magical. The snow came from out of nowhere and took everyone by surprise as nobody had seen any for years.Buses couldn't get over Denmark Hill and all trains were cancelled so nobody could get to work...pretty special when you think about it. I was in Dulwich Park for that snowball fight and then the pub. But after the council got their act together and the other snow days since haven't had that impact.

P.s. Do spititualist churches practice the 'guilt/shame' doctrine?

We'd been in the Golden Lion in Camden on the Sunday afternoon, getting sloshed at the Honky Tonkiin' Sunday club. Looked out of the door at about five o'clock and there were a couple of flakes of snow. By eight it was a blizzard. Scarpered home and got one of the last buses to Camberwell before having to walk the rest of the way. So the Monday lunchtime thing was well-deserved.

A friend was working as an agency admin clerk at Tottenham Magistrates Court. He walked through the snow to work, which took him two hours, only to be told that the court was shut and he wouldn't be paid for the day. He told them to stick their f***ing job. He hasn't worked since.

He can't, it's just his "thing".

I long for a snow day, I honestly don't know how I'd get to work without the trains, so always a pretty good chance of a day off. My 3.5 year old was only 18m 2 years ago which was the last time we had proper snow, and before Frozen, so she is absolutely desperate for snow!

I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn. It doesn't wash with a party that is in actual government.   https://labourlist.org/2020/04/forward-momentum-weve-launched-to-change-it-from-the-bottom-up/
    • I perceive the problem.simply as spending too much without first shoring up the economy.  If the government had reduced borrowing,  and as much as most hate the idea, reduced government deiartment spending (so called austerity) and not bowed to union pressures for pay rises, then encouraged businesses to grow, extra cash would have entered the coffers and at a later stage when the economy was in a stronger position rises in NI or taxes would have a lesser impact, but instead Reeves turned that on its head by increasing ni which has killed growth, increased prices and shimmied the economy.  What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???
    • That petition is bananas.   If you want a youth centre there pay the landlord the same rent a Londis would and build it yourself or shut the f**k up to be honest. Wasting our MPs time with this trivial nonsense is appalling. If your kids are still out at 1am on a school night you've got bigger problems than vapes and booze and hot sausage rolls.
