Roofer and guttering recommendation

Just wanted to recommend David O'Donnell and his team of Norwood Roofing Specialists (got his details from EDF so please check other threads). I called him to provide a quote for repairing my roof (water leaking into my bedroom).

Tick 1 - he called back the same day (so many people do not even bother to return calls) and arranged to come around a time convenient for me within the next couple of days.

Tick 2 - he came when he said (on a Thursday), looked at the problem and provided explanations of what had happened in layman's terms and gave a very reasonable quote. Having agreed it, he said that he could come back on the following Monday to do the work.

Tick 3 - Sunday I received a call to say that weather forecasts were not looking good so he wanted to postpone 24 hours.

Tick 4 - on Tuesday he and his team arrived and quickly got to work. Very professional. Provided me with explanations of what they had done and showed me pictures from their phones (subsequently these have all been emailed to me).

Whilst on the roof, it became apparent that there was further work would be required to my central roof (I had only asked originally for work to be done on a side roof and above my bedroom). Again pictures were provided to show the cracks. Quote again very reasonable and work agreed to happen within a week.

Tick 5 - Patrick from his team cleared a blocked gutter completely - extra work but done for free. He also advised on how a hedgehog could be used to prevent this in future. David also pointed out that 2 of my downpipes were a shade too short which had led to water spilling down my outside wall. He promised to elongate both to resolve the issue. Both pieces of work were tacked onto the 2nd visit (quote again very reasonable).

Tick 6 - all work carried out now professionally and I have again been shown and been emailed pictures of what has been done to my roof.

I am a happy customer, especially as payment can be done by internet banking (avoiding runs to the bank) and more importantly I have received invoices with 10 year guarantees for the work.

David can be contacted on 07412 000214. No hesitation in recommending him and his team, Patrick and Alec. Would definitely use them again.

Another recommendation for David O'Donnell - agree with everything cnr_154 has said. He sealed a leaky velux, re-rendered a parapet wall and rendered and pointed the leaking chimney stack and put new flashing on. He and his team were very prompt and reliable, easy to get hold of by phone, and finished the work to a high standard with guarantees and photos. I have used bigger companies before and they were both more expensive and more painful to deal with.

Another recommendation for David O Donnell and his team at Norwood Roofing Specialists. Initially they came to clean and repair my guttering. Whilst doing this work I also asked them to check the state of the roof and it was apparent that all the parapet/party walls needed re rendering. They provided a very reasonable quote and showed me photos of the state of my roof! The work had to be delayed due to bad weather but David contacted me in advance to rearrange. The team arrived promptly, were very polite and professional, cleared up all mess upon completion of the job, have carried out the work to a high standard and have also provided a ten year guarantee.

David can be contacted on 07412 000214 or 0208 6536306.

I can second all those recommendations - David's just replaced the guttering at the front of my house. he was easy to get hold of on the phone, came when he said he would (actually 15 mins early), explained what he was doing - so thumbs up. Also great to be given a receipt without asking for one (cf. current Newsnight discussions etc) and guarantee.

He's actually called O'Connell not O'Donnell though! his number's 07412 000 214

Another recommendation for David O'Connell and his team at Norwood Roofing Specialists. After seeing the recommendations on this forum I initially called David for a quote, he came round and explained what he would do and how much it would cost. He came round again last week Wednesday morning as agreed to dismantle the old guttering to the front and side of the property. He supplied and fitted new deep flow black guttering with all the fittings and cleared away the site at the end. I was very pleased with the work he did and will be using him again in the near future to carry out further work at the back of the property.

And another one.... I too contacted Dave after reading the positive reviews on this forum to get some long overdue repairs to some guttering and im glad I did. He was really helpful when I explained what the problem was over the phone, popped round the next day to see the propery & give me the quote, then the following week he arrived as arranged with another chap (sorry cant remember his name)to do the work.

They were both really friendly, were quick, neat and efficent. I asked if he could look at another few bits and bobs while he was here, and he did no problem at all.

I will definitely use Dave & his team for the additional jobs I need to get done. He saw I had a dodgy bit of plaster that needs redoing in my hall, and he said he could pop round and tidy that up for me too, which is really helpful. Dave is on 07412000214

Hi Another recommendation for David and his team. We have used his services to fix various problems on our aging roof over the last two and half years. He is very responsive in an emergency, reliable, friendly and reasonably priced. His number is 07412 000 214.
I?d also like to recommend Norwood roofing ? David and his team restored our facias and guttering along the roof line. The work was completed quickly and effectively and the facia and guttering work was completed to a high standard we were delighted with. They connected the downpipe to a new water butt we had purchased ? and when the base of this was not stable enough David and his team cheerfully came back and rectified the problem (works a treat now). Happy clients!

I also want to sing high praises for Dave from Norwood Roofing. He promptly returned my call to fix some guttering and arranged to come the next day. I called him later that evening to ask if he could have a look at my next door neighbour's roof at the same time and he was only too happy to oblige. He did both jobs very quickly and very pleasant to deal with. We'll definitely use him again and will recommend him.
Another recommendation for David and his team (Alec and Patrick) from me. We used them back in March after seeing the long string of recommendations on this forum. Our guttering was overflowing constantly in the heavy rain and we also had a leak into our loft extension, coming in under a window ledge. We'd already got the builder who did the extension and the people who put in the windows back to try and sort the leak, the builder was adamant it was a problem with the window not his tiling whereas the window company (who did a pretty thorough investigation) said it was the tiles, not the window. David came and looked and gave us a quote which was very reasonable. They put in deeper fast flow guttering and we've had no overflow problems since. He also looked at the leak and said it was obvious to him the tiling was defective, they re-did that and the leak stopped immediately. I also asked him to look over the rest of our roof/pointing and he pointed out a few other things where the builder hadn't sealed things off properly, he took his time to explain what these were. Again a very reasonable quote and he came back to fix those things today. The team are all friendly, polite, work quickly and safely and clean up after themselves - would definitely use them again and would definitely recommend!

And another recommendation for Norwood Roofing

They fixed a leak in my garage roof (result of a somewhat dodgy repair by someone else) just in time before it started raining again.

Re-felted problem area. Put in new gutter supports and resealed gutter. Repointed some shabby leadwork.

They were quick, friendly and tidy and left a happy customer.

Yet another recommendation for David at Norwood Roofing. Very easy to work with, lovely team and really good work. Arrived on time last week and leaded my roof at back of house, replaced tiles, removed moss and flaunched the chimney stack. Returned this week and installed lead in the front roof valley, bay window and plugged up a hole they found under the fascia board.

I'd like to add to the list of recommendations for David O'Connell and the guys at Norwood Roofing. Saw the recommendations here, called him Monday morning and he came around that afternoon to assess the work needed and give me an estimate. The work was completed a week later. In addition to replacing badly capped pots, they repointed the stack and internal gables and rebuilt a rear partition wall using London stock. David highlighted some other areas - with photographs - that would need attention in the future, but gave a fair idea of how long we could wait before undertaking more work/cost. The completed work looks a treat and it was genuinely refreshing to get tradespeople who did what they said they would, when they said they would.

    • That's actually why the Sherlock Holmes stories were so popular. There was so little crime people found it exciting to imagine robberies and murders happening in London.
    • Yes, because of course there were no violent robberies in the olden days. Pretty much no crime happened at all I believe through the entire Victorian era.
    • Hi all, Im a Southwark council leaseholder and live downstairs in a ground floor flat, there is one flat above me, it's a house with individual front doors leading from the street into the shared pathway. My neighbour told me he has had a ring doorbell installed, no discussion as to how I would feel being on camera everytime I go in and out or in my front garden. I was told it's only for deliveries and doesn't record and only activates when pressed, however I don't know this and I feel really uncomfortable everytime I'm out in garden or on doorstep talking to people. Everytime I walk in/out, it lights up and in the eve it has a  infra red  light. Now I've read up that as he said its only for deliveries, he could set it so it only activates when pressed, however it activates with its motion sensor. Had he said to me about getting it installed, I could have had the opportunity to ask about it recording etc but nothing except it's being installed and when I arrived home it was there. I don't like being horrible to people however I feel I have not been considered in his decision and I feel very uncomfortable as, some times I have to stand on doorstep to get signal for my mobile and I really don't like the idea of being watched and listened to. Has anyone got any advice as I'm beginning to get angry as I've asked about it once and was told it only activates when pressed. I believe this is not true. I know southwark council say you need to ask permission to make sure the neighbours are OK with it, I don't really want to go down that road but I don't know how to approach the subject again. They also put a shed approx 3 foot from my back room window, these places are built so my window faces their rear garden and there upstairs window  faces mine. They said it's there temporarily, that was over a year ago and it does affect the light, plus I'm hoping to sell up soon and the view from window is mainly a dark brown shed. When I've mentioned this, I was told they have no where else to put it, whereas originally they said its only temporary, Also the floorboards above are bare and I get woke early morning and at night, the thudding is so bad my light shakes and window rattles, so I mentioned this and asked if they have rugs, I was told when they get the boards re sanded they will get rugs, I should have asked if they could get rugs and just take them up when boards being done, which I would have done had it been me living above someone, their attitude was I can just put up with it until they are ready. so they had the floor boards done, and the workmen was hammering screws, yes screws, in the floorboards, I spoke to workmen to ask how much longer and they said yes, are using screws to make less noise! I could hear the cordless screwdriver, not an issue but for every screw there were at least 8 whacks, the owners had gone out to avoid the noise  so I  spoke to workmen as the noise was unbearable, the sanding, not an issue at all, people need to get things done to their home and I'm fine that on occasions there will be temporary noise. now I have a nice crack on my bedroom ceiling, I mentioned this to owner but no response, he said there were alot of loose floorboards and it will be much better now, not so noisy, as though I don't know the difference between squeaking floor boards and thudding, and nothing was mentioned re the crack or that they now have rugs, which if it were me, I'd be trying to resolve the issue so we can get on with feeling happy in our homes. so I'm feeling it's a total lack of consideration. these places are old and Edwardian and I've lived here over 40 years, had 4 different neighbours and it's only now the noise of thudding is really bad and the people before had floorboards but nothing like this. As you can probably tell I'm really wound up and I don't want to end up exploding at them, I've always got on with neighbours and always said if there's a problem with my dog, pls let me know, always tell me, however I feel it's got to the point where I say something and I'm fobbed off. I know I should tell them but I'm angry, perhaps I should write them a letter. Any suggestions greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my rant.
