Louisa
I love blood on/in meat. A burger bun with blood on doesn't sound great though, even though I could neck a length of black pudding without whincing.Louisa. Louisa
Pineapple should only be used in two contexts, and neither of them involve eating the damn things. Louisa. Dulwich Born And Bred
You can request for no toppings or choose your toppings and the men in my family always ask for the burger to be medium rare and they always have been .The beef is :Our burgers are made from 100% prime beef, traditionally reared and grass fed on independent farms across the South West counties. david_carnell
Are their burgers minced and made on-site?Or are they pre-made in some ruddy factory in Devon and shipped around the country frozen?I've got a feeling I know which. Daily yes - at midnight (or later). For the next day's diners. And stop knocking pineapple. On gammon it's almost a lost art and as tasty as a prawn cocktail - and a butter-fried pineapple slice with jerk pork is a thing of beauty. Alex K
^ Otta -- some years ago I came back disgusted from a Gourmet Burger Kitchen evening and reported on the Forum that they wouldn't cook my burger rare. "Health and safety." As I wrote then, that policy makes sense if you're plating up abattoir floor-sweepings. With avocado and pineapple. A little later that bloke with the van who did pop-ups at the Rye, and went on to establish MeatLiquor, emerged onto the scene, and any temptation to give GBK another try vanished utterly. Jeremy
That's the thing, GBK might have seemed OK 10+ years ago, but the "Meat" burgers, Shake shack, and even Byron are much better and GBK have stood still. Lowlander
I haven't been back to GBK since they charged me ?1.50 for some sauce on the side. Fine in 2005 but 10 years later Byron and others have overtaken them. Otta
Yeah having to pay for the little pots of sauce is taking the piss. GBK definitely not cheap. MrBen
GBK founders sold out years ago. It's now the non musical equivalent of a radio-friendly unit shifter, pumped up battery farm style by private equity money and dishing it out to the masses. Louisa
Out of the big chains Nandos is the only one where I see any real value for money. GBK is overcharging for a food item I consider to be pretty basic. I much prefer the idea of a build your own burger type place, rather than some botched up thing containing all sorts of randomly put together stuff and then you'll get charged extra for the chips anyway. Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/55318-menu-for-dulwich-fox/page/3/#findComment-831001 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
I quite like GBK. Their burgers taste good. They may not be striving to 'push the boundaries of burgerology', but then it is only a hamburger and a theirs is perfectly satisfying. Jeremy
Nandos actually own GBK. Maybe they'll give us a swap. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/55318-menu-for-dulwich-fox/page/3/#findComment-831019 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
I like Nandos, but it never really fills me up. And the chips are rubbish. Basically, I just really like the sauce. Louisa
I would love a swop Jeremy, shame we don't have a unit big enough. I agree with rah about the chips, they're pretty tasteless. The half chicken though marinated with extra hot sauce is a thing sent from god. I have happily walked to Camberwell when I've had a craving just for half a chicken with some corn on the cob. Louisa.
