Yes, buffered if I've worked out how yet. iPod plays loads of different formats though, it's the conversion from DVD I couldn't work out. Mind you I didn't actually read any instructions just hoped my software would be easy to use.

In short, I too am curious.

So, any techies out there who're prepared to help out BN5 with his embarressing download shortcomings/difficulties and not make him feel as if you've just pulled his pants and trousers down in front of the whole school making him look weak and thick.

I have tried several programs, but the one that seems to be most recommended is a freebie called, Handbrake

http://handbrake.fr/

It has a bunch of presets including iPod as well

That said, I haven't used it in earnest yet, because.. well, time and faffage really - but this looks well do-able

Well done Sean. There are a lot of techies who would've taken that as an opportunity to flex their 'smug' muscles but you rose above it.

Guys, I think we've got the old Sean back that we all love, cherish and wish would just shut up sometimes.

*sighs*

what is this 'code' you speak of? When I started 'proper' work on my desk on my first day were:

A note pad

Pens

Pencisl

A rubber

Tipex

A file card box with file record carsd

A phone

An ashtray

..and everyone went down the pub for lunch everday except occasionaly Mondays

If I've told you once I've told you a thousand times DON'T YOU DARE F..KING LIE TO US QUIDS!!!

I used to work with Quids back in the late 90's and it was an open secret that Quids kept a little Philipino boy in a cage under his desk to run errands and perform tasks. Nothing innappropriate mind...just the occasional bet or check on the footie scores...for half a bounty bar a day.

I have done this. You download a DVD decoder, that rips the vid files off the DVD, either as one huge file, or seperated in to the chapters.

You then download an ipod converter, which will convert them in to MP4s, and away you go.

I have the software on my other laptop, so can't give links right now, but I managed it pretty easily, so a google search should point you in the right direction.

figured this was do-able: prob was/is that I don't really know how to filter out which of these websites will result in a massive viral porn download, so any recommendations for safe ways to go greatly received!

Does the same apply to converting stuff from youtube?

PS: In the interests of protecting admin and other users, this is a purely an academic exercise and I'm sure none of us habitually infringe copyright etc >:D<

for youtubage,

Downloadhelper

both captures and converts most legal streaming sites to several video formats

(assuming you use firefox for browsing, and sure why wouldn't you?)

BN5 - if you opt for Handbrake link above you won't be anywhere near any viral sites - are you worried about the software itself or when you decide to start downloading videos?

Try NoteTab (even the Light version). http://www.notetab.com/ I've memories of using it with files of several MB.

"BTW, as long as you're playing with NoteTab Light. I found a setting

where you can set the maximum file size. It was set at the default max

of 2 gigs." http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1961456.php

    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?
    • I don’t think anyone has mentioned Peckham FoodCycle yet, they might enjoy some apples! https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-peckham-saturdays/
    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
    • Another recommendation for Jeremiah! He's cleaned our windows for a couple of years now and is always reliable, friendly and does a great job
