That DAMNED machine!!! Does anyone else find it a ridiculous pain in the morning? My average waiting time at the moment is about 30 minutes, and that is after A mini hike towards Forest Hill in order to ensure I can get squeezed on. At the risk of sounding like a real whinger, I am also finding that it often turfs me off at Vauxhall claiming that it had ALWAYS SAID ON THE FRONT that it was terminating there. Grrrrr! I am a pretty chirpy person generally, but really; It drives me crazy some days!

RANT OVER

Lotty, this type of situation requires only one course of action I'm afraid.

On alighting the bus at the end of the line the driver will be looking in his mirror to make sure all the passengers leave the bus. This will give you ample opportunity to creep up to his right hand window and deposit a small stink bomb. When I was at school we had a partially sighted kid who would take ages counting out his fare. The bus driver would often make fun of him so me and my partners in crime lobbed a firework into his cab to keep him company.

Good luck.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who gets frustrated at numerous buses that display a destination then terminate halfway!

Best thing to do is to complain first to driver (although many of the decisions are out of his/her hands), then to the respective bus company and sending a copy to the Mayor's office and TFL.

I have'nt had a problem yet with 185 terminating early, as quite new to the area, but in North London where i used to live, there was constant terminations, all of which i made strong complaints about.

If one does'nt complain or make a fuss about things, then no-one ver listens and nothing gets done.....so my advice, put pen to paper and complain.

You are very lucky Poppy that you do not seem to have had many bad experiences on this route.

My friend was abused and used by schoolkids on this route and even her mobile trolley wasn't a sufficient defence!:X

So count yer blessings is what I say(!)

    • Thanks, Malumbu, but did you mean "ambulance"?  Southwark certainly seem to be planting a lot more trees than they are removing, which is great!
    • Look at the national debt of the US.  It's ginormous.  The US spent their way out of the 1930s depression. Which is what the UK should have done rather than the Coalition's austerity. Look at the harm and division austerity led to in the UK. If only it was simple.
    • Floating a few ideas to gauge consensus indicates that there is no strategic plan.  It's just political dithering. It represents a fundamental inability to recognise the fundamental structural  issues concerning the nations economy. In keeping with France, Germany and many other European countries, the UK's economic health is in decline. In the last two decades, much of government spending has been funded by debt.  The cost of servicing that debt is currently running at around £95 billion and that is increasing steadily. It means we are living beyond our means. We are in a debt spiral. the government is funding a welfare state that has gone out of control. We cannot continue to have a situation where millions here prefer to live off Universal Credit  plus other benefits. Some of them also earn additional untaxed income from the grey economy. We have to reduce govt spending. It is the elephant in the room. There has to be cutbacks - no tinkering but real cutbacks  and austerity. Committing to austerity and  major cutbacks will reestablish credibility in the financial markets. This alone will reduce the cost of servicing the national debt. It's a virtual circle but it does need political courage not indecisiveness. Stop rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.!
    • @malumbu I don't know the answer either but I do know that floating multiple ideas leads to uncertainty and spooks the economy.  If they want to grow it, they should be more cautious about what they say as they are currently in danger of digging the financial black hole deeper as markets and investors will be wary.
