Best place for a Sunday Roast?

Where is the nicest place to get a roast on a Sunday in Dulwich.....all recommendations are welcome : )

I would thoroughly recommend The Great Exhibition pub. They have a jazz band playing on sunday, and the food is gorgeous. Get there in good time, though, as it gets really busy!

It's Peckham rather than East Dulwich, but The Montpelier on Choumert Rd is very good - had a delicious Sunday roast there a few weeks ago, also complete with a Jazz band.

The Palmerston does the best roast in East Dulwich. I'm not sure there are any worth going to in Dulwich though. Best roast in the area is at The Crooked Well in Camberwell.

I really enjoyed the Lordship pub, good portion sizes, polite, efficient service and the food was great.

East Dulwich is in Dulwich.

Was disappointed with The Montpellier roast. Plough is average but Great Exhibition is decent as is The Rosendale.

Yes I agree! the roast there is good but why do they persist with that jazz band at lunch? I guess I must be in the minority but I find it so annoying sitting there trying to eat and listen to your friends/family and being drowned out by a band or a guy on a double bass or piano (during the week)! I am happy to sit outside and have a distant sound of jazz but being drowned out by it is really annoying and we have been known to waffle our food and get out of there quickly to go somewhere we can actually talk.

This is just my opinion so as I said I presume I am in the minority.

In addition to the Great E, Palmerston, The Lordship and Crooked Well, all of which I'd agree are excellent options, I'd also consider The Old Nun's Head and Peddler in Peckham.

I don't think you can go wrong at any of these, although very hard to argue which is best. The Old Nun's Head and GE are prob best value and offer comparable quality to the others.

Live Jazz is just too imposing if you are having a nice quiet Sunday Lunch with the family or friends..

They have Jazz sometimes in the EDT.. Guy on Sax is awful. Just seems to play up and down the

Scales with semi Avant Garde style chords.. Augmented fifths or what ever.

HMB, roasts at home are usually the best... something seems to get lost when it's scaled up. But I really, really hate washing up...

Yep, the washing up after a roast is enough to put me off doing them very often. If I have a hankering I invite myself round to my mum's. Very rarely have a pub roast, and even the really good ones (Palmerston and the like) leave me a bit disappointed.

Was going to start a thread to recommend the Old Nun's Head for a truly excellent Sunday Roast then I saw this one. Great service, nice atmosphere, lovely staff and the food was delicious.

Not so keen on doing all the donkey work and having roasts at home anymore now :)

I always make my own roasts at home but got the family over next weekend & really fancy going out for a change but the main reason is so i don't have to wash up lol

Yes.

Their roast is a lot cheaper than the other options mentioned above.

But it reminds me of my school dinners in the fifties :(

Of those I've tried, I enjoyed The Great Exhibition's and The Old Nun's Head.

The Montpelier was one of the worst I've ever had locally (beaten only by one at the Dog which was virtually inedible), but that was a year or so back so maybe things have changed.
