SteveT
Notice on car (not a joke) Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a publicparking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on therear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home,it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend told me not tostop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of thecar. Then we received this email yesterday:'WARNING FROM POLICEBEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--NEW WAY TODO CAR JACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'... You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. Youstart the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of yourparking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middleof the rear window. So, you shift into neutral, unlock yourdoors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (orwhatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reachthe back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear outof nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practicallymow you down as they speed off in your car.And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, yourmoney, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity arenow compromised!BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, justdrive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that youread this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends andfamily, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds ofpersonal information and identification documents, and youcertainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands. I thought this message was worthy of a viewing on the forum, it dropped into my emails earlier today. bigbadwolf
It may be false but it is a clever way of nicking someones car. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5818-car-jackers/#findComment-186972 Share on other sites
EDmummy
Even before checking it on Snopes the language used should be a give away - we don't "shift" gears in the UK! Jeremy
Yeah... it seemed unlikely to me. I don't know why someone would bother doing that, when they could just whack you over the head with a blunt instrument when you're approaching your car. bigbadwolf
Quite right Asset. From my experience ladies leave their purse at home and only realise when they get to the shops. Peckhamgatecrasher
Steady on chaps. Some of us are more cynical than others. Steve could have posted in good faith, in which case, thank you for your good intentions. jennyjen
Chances of this being a more effective way of highjacking cars than any other conventional method are slim Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5818-car-jackers/#findComment-187073 Share on other sites
Tony.London Suburbs
Steve almost certainly posted this in good faith as a warning to others. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5818-car-jackers/#findComment-187099 Share on other sites
Mick Mac
Well done Steve - I'll tell my wife to look out for this scam - even if it has never happened before, she is surely going to be the first to fall foul of it. In fact now you have advertised this great carjacking idea, I'm sure it won't be long before you can say - "hey I told you so". woofmarkthedog
Yeah I heard of another version of this, it's called the "Simian jack scam"The "jackers" stick a 650lb gorilla on your rear window, (it plays dead so as not to give it's self away)When you get in your car and shift into reverse you see the gorilla in your rear view mirrorSh*t you say and go to get out to remove the darn thing.....Now this is where the difference is in the "Jack"The "sleeping" gorilla, all 650lb of him wakes up.......oh yeah and he's pis**d offhe rips you to pieces at this point limb by limb and sucks the eyes out of your skullThen to top it all a trained baboon jumps into your car and drives round in circles doing "doughnuts" as the gorillasearches the pockets of your clothes (you are by now a lifeless corpse)finding your cash and credit cardsThen your very drunk girlfriend just about comes to & looking at the baboon (she has a hand over one eye to focus) now in the driving seat and wearing your GT driving gloves ,yellow night shades and a red Ferrari base ball cap (free with 10lts of Texaco oil) says..."Oh baby you look soooo hot....did you shave tonight.....you gorgeous manhunk.."Her head slumps down into the baboons lap and .......(well you can guess the rest)Put it this way , the baboon is grinning from ear to ear as he drives of with your car your cash & your chickThe gorilla who has previously stolen a pizza hut "ped" and makes good his escape on that.BEWARE OF THIS SCAMW**F Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5818-car-jackers/#findComment-187128 Share on other sites

SeanMacGabhann
SteveT - sorry, I wasn't trying to tick you off, I was just more surprised you fell for itEverything about the construction and wording of it reeks of urban myth. The road to hell is paved with good intentions etc etc. Wasn't Chicken Licken a parable?Anyway now that more people know about snopes, here's hoping a few more urban myths get debunked Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5818-car-jackers/#findComment-187159 Share on other sites
LegalEagle-ish
Yeh, if you think about it, you are just as likely to spot the bit of paper as you walk up to your car so can't see this as being a genius way to steal someone's car.
