WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE DANNY - HE IS INCOMPETENT AND DISHONEST. Unfortunately I did use him and the experience cost me ?550 plus permanent damage to an expensive floor.

I asked him to regrout around the edge of a bathroom - a very simple job. Without being asked to touch the floor, he covered it in grout, including filling expensive pewter inset tiles with grout. The tiles have been permanently badly scratched when getting the grout out even though done by a professional. Furthermore, he filled in parts of the floor in a different coloured grout (again, I stress, he was never asked to touch the floor which before he started on it was in perfect condition) - I have had to have the floor completely redone. Where he grounted around the edge of the bathroom, it was a total mess - big chunks of grout smeared everywhere. The professional who came to sort it out said "it was the worst job he had seen" and "it looked like a drunk had done it."

I asked Danny for money back - unfortunately I had paid him ?250 before realising the mess he had made because he left the entire floor covered in white grout dust wheich he said needed to be left there for 24 hours and which I would have to clean - he admitted it was his fault, he had done a bad job, and he would give me money back. That was around 2 months ago. Despite repested text exchanges and various excuses ("I've been away etc") and promises to pay, he has failed to get in touch or refund anything. I have had to pay ?300 to have the mess he made sorted out, and even then it will never look as nice as it did before because the floor has been so badly scratched removing the grout.

Danny also replaced door handles, leaving huge holes which he said he would come back to wood fill (he hasn't) and which don't open and close properly. VERY much regret having him do work at my house.

I would like to add my recommendation for Andy of Andyman. It was from the Forum that we originally got his contact details.

Andy and Richard worked in our house recently, redecorating our daughter?s bedroom. Excellent work, and all done with great care and attention.

It was a pleasure having them here and they?ll be back very soon to do other work.

    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
