Hi Kittenheels..

I had this problem last year while on holiday in Turkey..

I got some stuff (a jet spray) that worked within a couple of hours and a load of wax came out. (nasty)

Its called Clean Ears by Naveh and is available in in the UK. on line.

I only needed to use it a couple of times.

If you cannot find something I still have most of the spray left and it in date until Feb 2016.

You are welcome to try it.

DulwichFox.

It is unlikely to be your GP who does the syringing procedure, more likely the practise nurse. It certainly is at Forest Hill Rd surgery. Try explaining your problem and re-booking.

Also a word of caution regarding Otex etc. I had the same issue hiking in the Alps (and horribly painful too). I used Otex for a week with no success When I came back and had the syringe procedure it didn't work as the Otex had melted the wax, that had then re-congealed into a solid plug.

The nurse advised me to just use plain olive oil three times a day for a week. When I went back the wax had completely dissolved. Result.

I had similar issue last year after going on holiday. Went to GP to have ears cleaned out but they cant do anything until the wax has been softened. Was told to go and buy some olive oil drops form chemist and use these twice a day for 5 days then go back. Went to see the nurse 5 days later and she removed it all. Well worth doing the oil BEFORE you go to see GP as I doubt he will be able to do anything until you have softened it
Try the Clear Ear Clinic (clearearclinic.com). Not cheap, but you will have super hearing within five minutes, no fiddling about with drops and syringing! You can probably get an appointment the same day. This method puts nothing in the ear, just takes everything out. Painless apart from the price.

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.

    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
