Hi,

Hoping I can crowd-source some ideas... Looking to hold a baby shower for 15 people in the beginning of June, in East Dulwich or as near as... Ideally something incredibly budget-friendly, a space (or table with some space around it) indoors we could book that would be cheap or free, and would allow us at the very least to bring food and a few decorations. Anyone have any tips or tricks? Have looked into booking areas in pubs, but obv they aren't happy for us to bring food, and if they offer proper spaces, there are ?500 minimum spends... Bit crazy for 15 people on a Sunday afternoon, methinks!

Thanks so much for any help!

Hi Ginster,

Thanks for the reply! I will def look into those places, but people seem to have their hearts set on potluck at least in the first instance... So I was wondering if there might be anything in the way of a community hall/centre or the like that might be available!

Thank you!

The nuns head in nunhead let a large group of us use their room upstairs for free and self cater. It was midweek though. A Sunday afternoon may prove problematic for a lot of venues tho as there is no such thing as a quiet Sunday in east dulwich.

East dulwich constituency club is surprisingly ok too... cheap bar, large space, nice gardens and budget friendly.

    • To be fair, a pot of tea for one in a department store is a small pot, and you only get one cup or mug!
    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
    • Nope. I don’t have this wrong. I’ve tried to put my point across respectfully, without resorting to personal, angry insults. And all my colleagues agree that the BBC got this right in its condemnation.    All you see is confirmation bias.    If you don’t realise that, then you’re part of the problem.
    • We have always gone during the week at lunch time - great place and good value. Husband has been several times on his own and owner knows his first name. I could not go one time for some reason and she sent him home with some spring rolls (free)
