Lolamaxx
Hi, Hoping I can crowd-source some ideas... Looking to hold a baby shower for 15 people in the beginning of June, in East Dulwich or as near as... Ideally something incredibly budget-friendly, a space (or table with some space around it) indoors we could book that would be cheap or free, and would allow us at the very least to bring food and a few decorations. Anyone have any tips or tricks? Have looked into booking areas in pubs, but obv they aren't happy for us to bring food, and if they offer proper spaces, there are ?500 minimum spends... Bit crazy for 15 people on a Sunday afternoon, methinks! Thanks so much for any help! NewWave
Have it at home? In the garden? or a kindly nearby neighbour or friend. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/59993-advice-needed-need-venue-for-baby-shower/#findComment-851520 Share on other sites
Lolamaxx
A few issues with that: new to this area of town (so no one to bother to use their home), and don't have a working loo (we've gutted the flat)... Ideally, at home is what we'd do! Ginster
Not sure re the bringing food but the first things that came to mind were upstairs at the following:Le ChandelierEDTPalmerstonClockhouseMaybe compromise on bringing in the food and they might just let you bring in a cake? Lolamaxx
Hi Ginster,Thanks for the reply! I will def look into those places, but people seem to have their hearts set on potluck at least in the first instance... So I was wondering if there might be anything in the way of a community hall/centre or the like that might be available!Thank you! solar
There are lots of church halls and community centres in East Dulwich. Ideal if you want to do your own catering. Try the Goose Green Centre (attached to St. Johns church), St. Clements church hall or the Alleyn Community Centre. Sue
Pretty sure The Ivy House will let you bring your own food. Also The Old Nun's Head. Both in Nunhead, but not very far from ED, and both have good spaces and lovely staff :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/59993-advice-needed-need-venue-for-baby-shower/#findComment-851547 Share on other sites
Jessicas429
The rose pub on forest hill road has an outdoor area with outbuilding you can use. Pretty sure you can bring own food but you'd need to check that. niwi
Upstiars at Le Chandelier is lovely and spacious or try the Herne Tavern as they have a building out the back too - not sure on self catering tho.xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/59993-advice-needed-need-venue-for-baby-shower/#findComment-851681 Share on other sites
stacker285
The nuns head in nunhead let a large group of us use their room upstairs for free and self cater. It was midweek though. A Sunday afternoon may prove problematic for a lot of venues tho as there is no such thing as a quiet Sunday in east dulwich.East dulwich constituency club is surprisingly ok too... cheap bar, large space, nice gardens and budget friendly. Mrs TP
What about the wildlife garden centre in Marsden Road SE15, my neighbour had a family birthday picnic there at their one picnic table. Obvs whether dependent and there are also some picnic tables in Peckham Rye Park.
