Loft conversion company - any recommendations or warnings?

We really need some advice please from people who have been through the loft conversion process as we are struggling to find a company we can afford to start the work.

Has anyone used Taylored Lofts for their loft conversion and if so what was your experience?

Any other loft companies you would recommend using or avoiding?

Thank you!

We used Taylored Lofts last year and I thought they were great. Job was on time and on budget (we had our second child coming so we couldn't afford for it to over-run).

We had a few issues that became apparent afterwards but they came back and sorted them out no problem and our new bedroom and bathroom are now the nicest rooms in the house.

If I had another loft that needed converting, I would use them again.

We also had quotes from Loft Life, Landmark Lofts, Armadillo Lofts, Absolute Lofts, and another couple that I can't remember the name of, when I looked for reviews there were quite a few negative ones for the rest but I couldn't find a single bad one for Taylored, plus I found someone who had used them before and was willing to answer my questions about them which sealed the deal for me.

Good luck, it's a minefield!

Ive just had my loft conversion built by Benchmark Lofts (020 7438 2043) after getting a couple of great referrals from 2 close friends of mine who recently had their lofts converted in Earlsfield last year. Thomas is the guy who runs the company, he is very helpful and straight foward to deal with. Their prices were competitive and the onsite team were very clean, polite and completed our loft 2 weeks earlier than expected! Thomas took care of the drawings and planning permissions from the deposit we transferred once we signed contracts. Im really happy with the finish and would highly recommend getting in touch with them.
My neighbour recently had their loft converted by Landmark Lofts, I had a look around as I'm thinking of getting mine done too. It looked pretty good and they seemed very happy with the end result. I'm still going to look at a couple of other companies for comparison but based on my neighbour's experience & the end result I'm swinging towards Landmark.

We had our loft done by Classic last October and we were very happy with them, they finished ahead of time and were very good about sorting out the snagging. We also had a small issue which needed resolving this year (long after we'd paid the final balnace) which they came and fixed without me having to hassle them.

Friends of ours have had a bad experince with Landmark so I would avoid them.

  • 4 weeks later...

Update - We've decided to go with Landmark for our conversion after all. They're not the cheapest but I'm of a mind to pay a little extra to get what we want.

Will keep you updated on how it turns out - fingers crossed (not looking forward to the dust!)

    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
