(not like when I was young, we were all miserable).

Talk for yourself - I had a fantastic childhood - most of the summer either on the beach or in the woods building dens (wouldn't be considered safe now)............ I had free meals at school and we were too poor to go abroad on holiday and I had totally bonkers parents - but I was very happy indeed!

May I cordially suggest he try this approach in the Whetherspoons in Peckham.

I'm confident the parents' response will make him long for a Mrs *Bob* style eye tent-pegging.

But actually I'm with Quids, your 'friend' doesn't actually do this, does he?

Bob he still has two eyes so he couldnt have met your other half, I wonder if she knows you fancy me . The thing is, everyone expects everyone to like and tolerate children. I was in Sainsbury's, the checkout woman say's are you collecting books for schools vouchers, I say 'no i dont like children' and everyone near by gasps and stares at me speechless. No humour, nothing, just shocked faces. Result for me as she undercharged and off i strolled leaving the stunned queue behind me .

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
