Just got home to find the house has been burgled. I think I dropped my keys outside earlier this afternoon (and feel like a right idiot!) and that's how they got in. I'm a little worried that the insurance company won't pay out on a claim like this does anyone know?

Can't find anything in the policy document and the offices are closed at the weekend.

Be careful & get some independent advice , we had a camera stolen, my god it was like the spanish inquisition, interviews on the phone bla bla....and the police knew the guy "wot dunn it"

Still they paid out (in vouchers) quite quickly

Good luck though

Have you reported the burglary to the police? You will need to do this and they will give you a crime reference number which you will need to provide to your insurers. Did you tell the police you lost your keys?

For the insurers to reject the claim this situaton would need to be excluded in the policy wording. If you cant find an exclusion that covers this, you should be covered (provided of course theft is covered).

Stick with the truth, insurers are not stupid and are particularly vigilant at the moment what with the economic situation.

Insurance Industry is legalised theft.

You are usually only insured for things that can't happen.:))

Worked with L And G,Pru, Zurich, Royal Sun Allon, Commercial Union, Norwich Union, Pearl and various others in the 1970's..

If they can wriggle out of something they will find all the small print imaginable to do so.

Not a fan...B)

easy - just say that while you were at the park you think someone must have stolen your keys and wallet from you bag. You only noticed hours later when you a. could not find your car keys or B. got home and found yourself unable to get in due to lost keys, got hold of your spare set from your friend and let yourself in and Bang...house robbed, say you had two purses one with credit cards etc which they did not get and the other with library cards, gynm stuff etc, one had home address on.
Hmm, they reckon they can trace anything bought from Currys over the last ten years. If that's true then I'm a monkey's uncle. What if you pay cash? I am not a good liar. I have embellished slightly but no more. Was thinking about the laptop but couldn't bring myself to say it and I think it'll look very dubious now if I call back and add it!

    • Blank canvas is best, people have all sorts of ideas/furniture/vision boards to get on with.  Clean. Crisp. Neutral. If anything, dressing with freshly baked bread, and flowers makes subtle difference.
    • I'd like to post a recommendation for Jerry Oscar of H.F.U. Ltd.   Jerry has just completed the renovation of my bathroom and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  My bathroom has a strange layout (with about a quarter of the room/floor space un-useable due to the stairs underneath), but he came up with some great ideas that have really made the most of the space - somehow he turned the room into a tardis and made room for a bath (previously only had a shower) AND even given me extra storage. He's a magician!  I felt he really cares about what he does and treated the project like it was his own home. He was also great to have around – super friendly, easy to talk to and raise any queries or concerns with the project, and he was very respectful of the space. He kept his tools tidy and made sure the bathroom was still usable while he worked, which made a big difference day to day. He doesn’t cut corners and clearly has high standards.  I’m honestly so pleased with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for someone reliable and skilled, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jerry. He does kitchens too, and if I ever redo mine, I’ll be giving him a call. • These Gents are amazing, we asked them to come and paint our whole house interior and fix a number of issues from previous paint jobs. They are professional, clean up after themselves and pay attention to every detail. Their work is outstanding and I can't recommend them enough, Brian and Malachi are incredible.
