Katie "Jordan" Price was two years below me at secondary school, and somewhat more surreally, legendary consumptive filth-mongering fin-de-siecle artist Aubrey Beardsley went to my sixth form college (although it was a boys' grammar school then).

Jordan & Aubrey Beardsley, there's a conversation I'd like to listen in on...

Did he carry on teaching? It always really annoys me those people who say that it won't change their life, they'll just have a nice little holiday or get some new tyres for the car and then put the rest in the bank. I hope he went into school the next day and told them to stick their job, he was going off to live in Tuscany in a massive villa and sod the lot of them.

Or race ride-on lawnmowers around his country estate like "Lottery Lout" Michael Carroll.

I'm not sure Pinky but I will tell you one thing. The teacher in question was called Mr Cleave and he had a bit of a camp way of carrying himself and the rudimentary comments regarding which team he batted for were made. However, I was fortuanate enough to go on the school trip to Paris during the 98 world cup and we were incredibly fortuntate in that Mr Cleave had arranged for us to go and see the Brazilian team train. It appeared however that there may have been an alternative reason for this treat. As a gesture of good will some of the coaches/support staff had a kick about with us and what I witnessed on that day I shall take to my grave. Mr Cleave was passed the ball and EFFORTLESSLY dribbled the ball round every Brazilian who tried to take it off him. Our jaws hit the ground. His skill was utterly breath taking! The best was yet to come. He kicked the ball but the goalie deflected his attempt but old Cleave was having none of it. Not only did he Scorpion kick it into the back of the net but he did it with such grace and ease. Most of us had passed out by then. I don't think I ever heard a disrespectful remark made against him again, he was after all our hero!

You went to the Brit School? Or just pulling our legs?

Lol, I wouldn't knock it, at least people get what you do, and it's something plenty of people secretly wish they could do themselves. My life would be much less rich without other people making music.

I'm an actuary, most people have never heard of that, and if someone looks interested when I tell them what I do, it's only because they have misheard me and think I said actress. ;-)

Lol, I should try saying things like "I know when you will die" and make it sound like I am a shady mafia boss. The reality of "I can predict when the average person your age might die" doesn't sound so threatening. And to be fair, I look about as threatening as the average marshmallow so I doubt anyone would take me for a mafioso!

lol, I'm sure I read a novel where a female character tried to advertise flute lessons and got all sorts of responses. I wasn't sure if it was just pure fiction or if that sort of thing happens in real life.

    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
