> The Dalai Lama?

'Some' years back, I went to a dirty rave 'in support of a free Tibet' (because as I'm sure you know already, the best way to fight for Tibet's right to self-determination in those days was to munch large quantities of ecstasy tablets and spend 16 hours throwing shapes in front of stolen road works lanterns and talking absolute bollocks to people with luminous mystical symbols drawn on their faces).

The flyers were printed and distributed.

If only someone had told the person responsible for them that 'Lama' only has on 'L'.

Mark E Smith from The Fall. Did anyone see his "performance" at Glastonbury? If you missed it, he was gurning his face off, looked comepletely out of it, pissed himself and sounded terrible. I don't get it, I've seen a documentary about The Fall and he comes across as a waster with no talent. His band members are amazing musicians but I just don't get why anyone would choose to listen to him. John Peel was wrong IMO, Mark E Smith is not a genius, he has no musical talent whatsoever. It's his band that do all the work and he takes all the credit. Unless I'm missing something. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

Having done both ... yes very different atmospheres to each other at the time and now. Dunno about Reading being 'Rock' - mix of rock/indie/grunge/world etc etc. Probably depends what bands you chose to see at the time.

All of the above. I'd add Jon Hopkins, belle and Sebastian, spiritualized and Todd Terje.

Last time I was at Reading (2007) we had a blast as there were loads of us there and some good bands / acts.

BUT on the last night the place went crazy. Gangs of pissed kids literally burning tents, sometimes with people still in them. Loads of stealing going on, it felt like the wild west once the final band had finished. I don't know that I'd be happy with my teenaged daughter going there, I think I'd let her go on the condition she left slightly early and missed that last night.

A few years ago I would have said Muse, but they seem to have turned into a stadium rock parody.

Last Shadow Puppets might be worth a watch. Beck, Editors, Chvrches. Band of Skulls are pretty rockin. Always loved Madness - and I think The Selecter are on one of the smaller stages too.

    • If you can use it exclusively for yourself for 12 years it might become yours by default under squatters rights? Maybe whack a bench on it and plant some flowers and then a little hedge around the perimeter to keep people out? I'm not sure if any of this is legal but it might be fun finding out?

    • Hello. Did you hear any further on this? Was there anyone at the council who was helpful to speak to? I am in a similar boat.
    • Dear all, Bit of a random ask but in such a supportive and accepting community, I thought I'd see if anyone had time to help 🙂 I'm conducting research for my MSc Psychology dissertation, using a brief anonymous survey to explore romantic and polyamorous relationships and how/if attitudes around this interact with factors such a family history and family making. The survey should take no longer than 10-15 mins and has been approved by the University of Roehampton. I'm hoping to circulate the survey widely enough that the data gathered is representational of the diversity in modern society across various aspects that constitutes personal identity. Some of the questions are of a personal nature and others could be considered a bit 'spicy', but just to reiterate, this is an anonymous survey.
