Look Mikecg, I am sure you are lovely. Why don't you just take a little time out to read the forum. You could think before you actually put your fingers to a keyboard (in a month or two). You could read what others say for a while - if they have not all ended their association with this forum by now.

Once there was clever conversation on here. Bright people engaged in witty conversation and I was considered the air head. You make me feel like Stephen Hawking.

This is not my forum. I never considered it to be, not ever. I was once in awe of so many forumites. Now I am almost embarassed by any association with it. Why don't you and your doggy friends take some time out to read for a while. And not just the forum, read some books and maybe even a broadsheet newspaper or two. You can get some help with that kind of thing at public libraries you know.

Lovely Mikecg,

I apologise. I don't mean to take a pop at you particularly or make you feel bad about yourself. This forum has just collapsed into ruins lately, and I miss it. I am disappointed because it was a genuine secret pleasure of mine for a long time. None of the conversation on here is interesting or relevant anymore. I once read every thread, relevant to me or not. Look at that football thread for example. It is just base and rude. East Dulwich has improved, but this forum has gone down hill.

I'm off...

Toodle pip.

Mike this isn?t a personal pop at you but she?s right about the forum. It really and truly has gone down the crapper. I was having a conversation with someone about it this morning. There is precious little worth reading anymore. No proper debate, wit is sparse and at best just knob gags.

Ok so there used to be knob gags but they had a certain asinine charm or at least elegant timing to them.

The intellectual discourse between some very well informed contributors, clever banter and humorous jaunts into the surreal of 2 years ago seem to be a thing of the past. Every now and again something worthwhile crops up but it?s like trying to hear a decent conversation in an echoing barroom full of Stella swilling meat heads.

I know I sound like a dick and have probably pissed off half of ED but it is true.

I know what you her and a lot of others mean Brendan and in all honesty I think some of my base humour has brought the tone down a bit. I myself can only judge from the past year but my personal gripe is that there are:

1) A growing number of moral crusaders who only seem to be following a particular agenda because it's fashionable to be seen to doing so and any intelligent and probing questions on them and there cause are met with tirade and accusation rather than rational discussion.

2) Not so much thin skin this time but people who can't take the piss out of themselves and take it on the chin and instead of playing the instigator at there own game result to being downright offended and making complaints.

3) The one thing I love about this forum is that all the regulars have to most degree's a sophisticated/intelligent/witty sense of humour but some posters like to join in with barbed comments and expect to be spared sometimes what can only be described as a good savaging. It's happened to me on more than one occasion but I like to learn from it.

You're a nice guy mike, I've met you on a couple of times and I like you, but you self confessedly like a bit of the baser banter. Nothing wrong there but DM absolutely has a point in that the lounge now no longer offers anything nut and it is tiresome and it is dull and it's not really worth reading and I think a lot of long term lurkeds and posters feel alienated by it or have gone altogether.

Good riddance to the old crowd? Perhaps, though i wouldn't agree. The footballbthread has actually started behaving again and the difference is immediately palpable which can only be a good thing.

This forum belongs to everyone and the problems if censorship is something the admin keenly feels. A smidgeon of self-censorship however goes a long way.

Sorry DM picked ok you as on the whole I don't think you're that bad unlike a few others, I like to think that criticism can be taken on board rather than a knew jerk attack especially as she has apologised and tempered her initial words, though frankly even those words were considered and never crass and IMHO needed to be said ... Or written or whatever

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
