This is a Marathon not a sprint Mike.

I fell out with my entire work Management from 27/5/81 until around 1988, around 7 years. That included every line boss, the overall management (Chairman/Accountant/Company Secretary ), the Departmental Secretary, The Head of our large Staff Department and even my "Union".

You have to develop a strong dispostion, broad shoulders and a firm jaw.

Enjoy these experiences, there are character building, My friend.

Only the weak walk or slink away and I do NOT regard you as that, so take it on the chin, never run to The Moderators and take it all in your stride M8.B)

When I was at sixth form college we used to bunk off the afternoon lessons all the time, they were sort of compulsory but didn't actually count towards your exams, and besides the lure of Burger King or going on the Waltzer was always greater.

We got away with it for weeks until the day we went into town for lunch and then made our way back for the afternoon session only to find that the roads had all been closed off because of a bomb scare and we couldn't get through. Needless to say, after months of blatant skiving, they didn't believe us one little bit. I believe the expression is "hoist by your own petard". Didn't make us feel any better about the subsequent detention though.

I think *Bob* expressed it well with his favourite colour post. I had been toying with a "most boring thing you've ever done" thread but his version was considerably funnier - that people replied in earnest sums up the current state of the forum for me.

As for the slightly addled man-on-man banter, I refer you fellows back to my suggestion some months ago that you all get naked and wrestle in mud to prove just who is cock of the walk. We could make it a feature of the next forum drinks. Or, you know, PM it.

BBW, I don't think this is so much about people not being able to take the piss out of themselves as not having anything to add. It's very difficult to add wit and repartee to a debate about your favourite X, or when you last did Y (fill in the blanks as appropriate).

BBW, at risk of being an illuminati tosspot I don't think people don't get your humour, and in small doses I've often laughed at your posts, it's that it's bloody one dimensional.

I've defended you twice in the face of bans and you proved me right both times demonstrating both erudition and a hint of contrition. So why don't you do that more often? Seriously you're 'shock' value is about a relevant as someone who just discovered pete and did in the sixth form, no sh!t yeah I've heard it.

It's not all about elitist debate though god knows I've been campaigning for the drawing room for the best part of three years, it's about striking a balance.

Anyway there's my tuppence worth I hate you all I'm leaving and never coming back, at least until the sun goes down or the pubs shut.

It's one of his things DM. Threaten you in a PM after having a row on the board. Don't let it get to you, I had some real doozies.

In 1996 When I was 17 I had a job working on the tills at Tesco which I did after school and at weekends...I earned about 45 quid each week which was a fortune to me and all was well until I realised that there was going to be a scramble for people trying to change shifts to watch Euro '96. Mercifully most of the older ladies manning the tills were not bothered but possibly because I was a slip of a schoolgirl, the boys on the tills seemed to be given first dibs. I missed the first England match as there wasn't anyone who would swap shifts and spent a miserable few hours sitting at my till in an ENTIRELY DESERTED tumbleweed Tesco's, unable to prevent myself from pointly out loudly and with no small degree of venom to any man who did come in (I still remember one came in for a single bag of grapes) 'ENGLAND ARE PLAYING NOW - WHY ARE YOU HERE?'

It got too much to bear when I was rostered on for the England -Spain match and I'm ashamed to say I got my mum to ring the customer service desk to say my Granny had been hit by a car, then fled, wiping away my crocodile's tears and sprinted to the nearest pub....

I'm not proud....

p.s Gran was already dead so I didn't feel I was tempting fate on her behalf.

Thank you for the support Ladygooner and Sandperson. I have arranged for my muscular young gardener to come and collect me from work in the Audi Q7 this evening, just to make me feel secure. I am so very small and fragile and easy to threaten, but when that enormous dog stunner I have ordered on the internet arrives, I shall be all set...

    • 🤣  After a horrible very long day at work I came home..read this post and laughed out loud....thank you! We made the error of visiting the one in Dulwich just after it opened...you missed nothing. I dont mind paying a bit more for something decent but honestly it was one of the most underwhelming badly cooked meals I've eaten,  with an accompnayment of awful muzak and dire dire service . really overpriced too I agree.
    • But you started this thread back in 2023 James! You must have known this site would be going ahead? Now you’re saying 12-18 months.
    • Such developments typically have 6-18months resolving all the conditions imposed on the approve scheme. While this going on they'll be lining up the constructions contractors, project management, etc. I'd guess 12-18months time.
    • this makes me realise how the world has changed...in the 90's I lived in Chelsea which you'd assume was a pretty safe neighbourhood..One night someone stole my beautiful and heavy  (they were made of stone or concrete) fully planted windowboxes from my windowsills..I lived in a raised ground floor flat with a pretty steep drop to the basement, They must have climbed over the railings on the stairs and onto the sill then passed them to an accomplice..Impossible to do this solo. They also stole a beautiful stone owl that I had on the sill. I reported the theft to the police-this was the days before ring doorbells etc-they came filed a report and description of the stolen goods AND I got a letter and phone call from victims support!
