I'd be a little reluctant to get the non- slated type - especially if we are to experience this type of weather regularly - completely prevents airflow. If you want shutters, I'd go for slatted plus blackout curtains. Saying that, eliminating all light from kids bedrooms is just creating a rod for your own back - try to go on holiday or to family/friend's houses where the conditions vary and you'll end up with tantrums.

It's not too bad actually. We do the blackout thing and on holiday we just buy some foil. A bit of water on the window and the foil sticks for weeks and is applied quickly and removed easily.

Wish I'd known this when my kids were younger!

  • 2 months later...

Hi,

My mum lives in Dorset and she had her shutters installed by a great company, she still feels they have great customer service too.

This is the phone number of the guy who went to see her who is local - 07590541124 - Ashley

He is still working for that company but I can't remember the name of them.

Good luck

    • I hate cooking and I can't cook. I live on stuff out of the freezer which I cook once every six months. I exaggerate only slightly.
    • Simply, give us a snap election now as the last 12 months in office honestly have not been great in any sense. Let someone else have a go at turning around UK plc before it's too late. At least the last administration had the inflation and unemployment rates going in the right direction at the END.
    • Yes but what's the answer, Jazzer? No government can simply walk in and fix the economy - get the bills down, grow it and reduce debt. There is no silver bullet. The public (and the press) wants everything now, everything cheaper, but with better public services and lower taxes.  In the radio and paper, all you ever hear is pundits, MPs, think tanks and economists saying what won't work, but no one seems to know what will work.  I'm genuinely interested to hear what other views people have on here, and what they think will help, or make things worse.
