I was in the Herne last night (had a meal) it was very very good. Anyway...

Whilst manoevering my way through the builders that gather in the Herne come 4pm, I overheard one of them saying that the Forest 'ill was opening back up soon, and that they were glad to be going back up there. So I don't think it will be like the Rye Hotel or anything. I would say it's still going to be a local boozer.

really PeckhamRose? is that from a "never been so just curious" perspective or a "I liked it the old way" perspective?

apart from the landlord getting fedup with the drugs and violence? Or reading the writing on the wall for alcohol only boozers and choosing to try stay in business?

Been in a few times before and after the refit. Think the place is alright now (the new decor veers towards the identikit/soulless but pulls back just in time, in my own opinion). Not eaten there.

Agree with the point above about the staff - they seem to be very good. My own gripe is that there's been football on the last few times I've been in, and it's visible (and audible) everywhere. Can't those who want to watch it be segregated from the rest of us?

Been in a couple of times - over last summer the garden was pretty good (and quiet too), however went in there a couple of months ago and the food was dreadful - I ordered chicken which was raw, when I complained to the waiting staff she tried to tell me it was ham(?) (it was that pink!!). Won't be hurrying back.

    • Two wrongs don't make a right. Labour ran on a manifesto of "we aren't like them" and "we are different" and"you can trust us/we will restore faith in politics". They are doing nothing to convince anyone that any of those promises are being met - they are letting everyone down. u-turning on everything and are fast-tracking the doomsday scenario of a Reform government. Even the runway on the "it's all the Tories fault" is running out. I dislike politicians because they cannot be trusted and Rayner just highlighted that with ribbons on. She should have been so careful after the focus on the electoral roll issues she had with the house in Ashton-under-Lyne and then under a year later this comes up. Clearly the advice she took included a recommendation to take proper advice that she failed to do - that's just daft and the most galling thing is that she didn't just resign when this came up - she tried to spin out of it but must have known she was toast. Trust is fast being eroded. I desperately want Labour and Starmer to fix this because the alternative it too scary to think about but the way things are going they are fast-tracking Farage into No.10. Labour are letting us all down.
    • Same can be said for the current and prior governments
    • Good afternoon, We are looking for a gardener to tidy up our climbing rose. It is very high, so the work will require someone with a tall ladder. can you please recommend anyone?  thanks s
    • So you are also old enough to remember the Heath Out protest by the TUC when unemployment hit 1 million? We all have selective memories, this thread is no different. Please give me a list of the Labour sleaze. And compare it to the Tories.  There are a few of you who appear to have a long term dislike of Labour, so all this is a gift.
