The East Dulwich Forum seems to have mutated into an episode of 'Police, Camera, Action' of late.

Should we have a 'crime' section instead? That way, those who are determined to feel terrified every time they leave their homes can check it daily to get their fill of muggings, burglaries, assaults and general lawlessness.. and those who prefer ignorant bliss can ignore it?

There should definitely be a Clown section.

The many Graduates ( some with Honours) from Clown College on here could contribute freely.

I, for one, was particularly impressed that the "clowns abducted by kid" thread was so well-received on here and that this topic was treated with the utmost seriousness by The EDF..

Clowns being abducted by anybody, children or otherwise, is certainly NO laughing matter.

Actually I think I may have that the wrong way round....

It's only going to get worse (the reporting, not the actual crime rate). People have got a taste for it now.

It (a separate section) might even serve a useful purpose, for the local fuzz, as well as residents. A spate of burglaries in a particular patch could be identified and the information put to use, instead of a general feeling that every house in East Dulwich has a 50% chance of being burgled - tonight.

If you want to be serious for a moment then.

I wasn't going to post what I, immediately. thought when I saw this idea but I will now.

Its absolutely pointless posting about any crime ON EDF ( I DO empthasise "EDF") as the victims then do triple summersaults and 4 back-flips, anything, in fact, NOT to reveal the identity of the perpetrators to "avoid any offence" or "not cause unnecessary stereotyping" thus severely DEcreasing the chances of the perpetrators being caught and INcreasing the chances that they will strike again.

Why shouldn't they continually strike if the victims are so pleasant and polite that they do not even want to give a description of them, on the occassions where they are able to.

Common sense tells one that this will only encourage them to continue their nefarious ways.

p.s Patronisation Alert....they DO mean well by not describing their assaillaints but I fear it has the reverse effect.

I know if I was a criminal I would be highly delighted that my victims would not want to give a description of me in case it causes offence.

So on The EDF I would say "Don't bother, seriously"..anywhere else I would say its a great idea for people to CHOOSE to read the threads, if they so desired and the stronger the description and the circumstances described the better.

You are right Sean.

We will leave it there but its just soooo frustrating for someone like me who would desperately want every Anti-Social person, of ALL Races, to be caught and dealt with by The Law, to observe that one of the reasons that this does not happen as much as we all would like is that many people are so tentative in offering a description which can only help, surely.

People on The EDF are NOT stupid enough to then classify everyone else of a fairly similar description as a potential threat, I'm certain Sean.

Great idea but I would go further than that.

The current news story about those 100 Old Ladies from South London and Surrey who were burgled ( some of whom were raped) over the last 20 years should not have wasted the time of The Police and even bothered to report it.

They should just take it that this is a sign of the times and stop moaning about it and move on.

Its not, as if, The Police have caught the suspect after, nearly, 20 years anyway.

There won't be a crime section to the forum but I understand why there's talk about having one. I think reporting real incidents like scammers in the area is worthwhile but asking "why were there some police on my road" is just curiosity and not necessary, unless it was a major incident. I've noticed similar topics of posts appear in waves i.e. someone sees the first post about police, they see the police activity outside and then think "I'll ask on the forum what that was about" and back to square one. A way of dealing with these is to tuck them away on the forum, deleting threads is not really an option (unless they're really pointless), perhaps Admin should just move those to the Lounge where they will fade away.

I know they can get tedious but people sharing their own experience of crime in the area is useful to a lot of other people. The worst thing is if people report it on the forum rather than to the police.

For some of us all sections are MTH sections, but a classy and inspired idea Quids, seconded by raising a copy of Brain Capers.
