Louisa
I don't mind Mars chocolate, but I grew up on Cadbury's/Fry's so I'm always going to be a little biased. Of course, both British brands are now part of an American owner conglomerate so it matters not. Louisa. Louisa
Talking of Fry's anyone old enough to remember 'five boys' chocolate bar with the almost ghoulish looking pictures on them? Think Fry's was bought out by Cadbury and consequently is now part of Mondelez. Still love a Fry's Turkish Delight and a Peppermint Creme bar. Louisa. tfwsoll
>>you can take your 85% cocoa single estate nonsense and shove somewhere REALLY dark! There's a wide range of chocolate between Cadbury's and the 85% single estate stuff. I prefer Swiss milk chocolate - Callier makes fabulous cheap chocolate but I am partial to a bar of dairy milk every now and then. Louisa
"But it wasn't until Bristol company Fry & Son made a 'chocolate delicieux a manger' in 1847 that the first bar of chocolate appeared, as we know it today. The first ever chocolate bar was made from a mixture of cocoa powder and sugar with a little of the melted cocoa butter that had been extracted from the beans." https://www.cadbury.co.uk/the-storyWe as a nation discovered the chocolate bar! And now that company has been eaten up twice and is under the ownership of a multinational. How sad. Louisa. I used to think their 'candy' was more exciting but I guess it was just because it was different (at the time). You can pretty much buy it all over here now anyway so it has lost its charm..and not sure I'd like the taste. My american cousins would go mad for Frys Chocolate Cream. Louisa are you sure you didn't pick up those tiny packs of Flakes that are used for 99s (ice creams)? Earl Aelfheah
I hate Dairy Milk. It doesn't taste of anything, just really sweet and has the texture of cheese. Horrible. That said, I do like a Crunchie and shameful as it is to admit, I always liked Caramac. My favourite old school bar though is the Fry's chocolate creme by a country mile. The same way that fish finger sandwich with cheese and a fried egg is not a gourmet meal... but few things hit the spot in quite the same way.
