TillieTrotter
Well said Steve. Josh, there is more than one thread. People care. They care in the frigging lounge where they are told to care about NON ED SPECIFIC news. Simple. Really. SeanMacGabhann
Looks like this thread about this forum has been moved to the "about this forum" section. Can you figure out why Josh or is it heavy-handidness in operation? mockney piers
In a vain (possibly useless rather than self centred) attempt to diffuse this, the terms of this forum are clear. Main room for definitively east dulwich issues. The lounge for other issues. That it, there is no onus or implication of frivolity in it being the lounge, it just means its a topic for discussion that is not east dulwich specific. Polly D
I don't get why Josh is being jumped upon so viciously for asking one question. Is this not an example of how some newcomers or infrequent posters can feel 'attacked' by more frequent posters/old timers? Whilst I don't agree with Josh that the forum and its admin could do better, I can see why a thread about such an awful incident as the fire appearing in the Lounge could seem odd if you don't use the forum a lot, but as others have pointed out, the Lounge is for non-ED related topics, as well as for chit chat. It would be hard to decide on the boundaries if all SE incidents were deemed as ED related, as Mr Admin has patiently explained in the past. Mark
Hi Polly, I believe it's because Josh says things like: "This is truly a very weak forum, and East Dulwich deserves better." and "small mindedness" and is generally insulting. It's like if you're at a house party and someone walks in shouting "this is sh*t", "why aren't you playing R'n B music", "the host does not know how to have a party". Everyone in there having a good time quite rightly tells him to sod off apart from ???? who gives him a doughnut, Chinese burn and then a wedgie.Insulting criticism isn't particularly nice and people react to it.oh, in this case Josh has been on the forum since October last year and has posted 50 times so he can't really be classes as a newcomer but I know what you mean, new posters being too scared to post or feeling unwelcomed is one of my bugbears but that's another issue.[edited once] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6900-what-is-wrong-with-this-forum-non-ed-issues-being-moved-to-lounge/page/2/#findComment-220995 Share on other sites
???? Polly D
Okay, haven't read anything else Josh has written so thought this came across as a bit of an attack. Brendan
Why are major, national issues that affect all our lives not discussed in the Main section? What about political ideology? Are they not important enough? Are they not of value to the people in East Dulwich? This is totalitarian, discrimination and obviously stems from a sinister agenda on the part of a clandestine coven of moderators. Who do they think they are giving up their free time and putting in unpaid effort to run a community service as fairly and even-handedly as possible? Bastards! TillieTrotter
To be fair Polly. I answered Josh calmly and civilly (sp) quite a few times but he just carried on and on with the same stupid question. As Quids said, it really doesn't matter where it was posted and for him to keep banging on after lots of people explained why and how it works became too annoying. SeanMacGabhann
What Tillie saidTimes 100A major news story breaks, with tragic consequences. Two separate threads are started and several people comment - A Good Thing? Not good enough it seems....Does this news happen on the Camberwell or Nunhead forums which are nearer? No - but instead THIS forum gets called weak, lame, badly run and that ED deserves better . Why not start a thread on those forums??Why does ED deserve anything? It doesn't - but people who do work to keep this thing ticking along have good reason to be hacked off when some gobby person with a chip on their shoulder starts ANOTHER thread, about the forum in the main sectionthe main section isn't the "serious" one and the Lounge isn't the "silly" oneThe main section is about ED related things - even dumbass stoopid things like people walking around Landells Rd with suitcases. Things get moved from the ED section when they stop being about ED - regardless of "value"When people spend so much time bitching and moaning it makes me wonder why admin bothers Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6900-what-is-wrong-with-this-forum-non-ed-issues-being-moved-to-lounge/page/2/#findComment-221603 Share on other sites
citizenED
Why is the ED Gossip section even being referred to as the "Main" section. This is a fair-minded forum and all sections were created equal. Some people might even consider that the Wanted, Offered section is the main one! OutOfFocus
the main section isn't the "serious" one and the Lounge isn't the "silly" oneThis may not the the intention, but it is how the two sections come over to me - and judging by the comments this thread I am not the only one that thinks this way. I certainly think there is sufficient "silly" stuff on the lounge that serious (and in this case tragic) stuff looks out of place. I think there is scope for a section that is more serious than the lounge (and possibly even the "ED Gossip" section). Can't think of a name - maybe the debating chamber. Why is the ED Gossip section even being referred to as the "Main" section. I guess it is because it the first first on the list, and seems like the "default" to post to if things don't fit elsewhere. Keef
I agree that the ED section feels like the "main" section, probably because it once was, and rooms like the lounge have been breakaways. Agree that a more serious debating room would be good. Can we call it the "seminar room", in tribute to The History Man? Mark
Time for my tuppence:A Debating Room has been discussed before and I'm thinking it might be time to add it, as well as splitting and creating the forum to be:ED issues / gossipWantedOfferedRecommendations/businesses, Family Room Discussion, Family Room ClassifiedsWhat's onThe Lounge (Non-ED casual chat and games)The Debating Chamber (Non-ED serious discussion)About the forumA couple of questions:Would the news about the recent fire would go in the debating chamber?Any other suggestions other than the debating chamber? The debating chamber would be heavily moderated, people who frequently take discussions off topic would be barred and no whinging. The debating chamber would be run by one person who had the final say, a chairperson. Agreed?
