On the cricket front, how do we feel going forward? Freddie's gone, I imagine Harmmy's off too, and I don't think it's looking good for Collingwood, so a few places up for grabs. I though Trott looked like a great find, an English(ish) batsman who looks as though he has no intention of leaving the crease. Straus seems to be doing much the same, though he's a vunerable at the start of a seesion. Prior's looking good, Broad (if he can get some consistancy) too. Not so sure about Swann, but he's no worse than Monty with the ball, but unlike Monty he can hold a bat. And we still have KP to return! Not a bad team :)

I think Monty is a better bowler. GigGirl, yes we won, and please enjoy the Aussie baiting! Piers, tell me about it! We were being filmed, and it was fun but tedious, and I would have preferred to have been sipping a cold pint in the sunshine outside the CPT, whilst keeping an eye on the cricket. On the bright side, it could have been 13 hours, at least we got away by 9 rather than 11, which was the original plan!

Monty? He hasn't had a good run with the ball for ages, including wickets where spin should be king. I'm not saying Swann's better with the ball, I think they probably work out much the same, but as Swann can get some runs, I'd have him over Monty.

Monty has scored a half century in test cricket, and his rear guard action saved up in the first test. And that wicket, which everyone said was good for spin, was shit! He's not been in great for, but I'd still have him over Swann.

according to cricinfo his highest score in test cricket is 26 (Swann has 63 not out), but yes, he did stay in and get the crucial draw. On the bowling front, I don't think the stats suggest mush between them, though Montys apply to quite a few more games! Monty/Swann.

I just read through the last couple of pages of this thread and what a good read.....I've been away for ten days on holiday and haven't listened to a radio or watched any television and thus missed the end of the Ashes and the start of the Premiership. Today was an actual happy Monday. Still buzzing off of yesterday!

On the spinners debate - Monty's got 10 wickets at 76 a piece this season, Swanny's been our most consistent bowler for the last year. Monty will come again but needs some time back at Northants.
